which airline is usually cheapest for flights in thailand ? for example bangkok-chiang mai

want to try train/bus mostly to save money but reading some topics the bangkok-chiang mai best option seems to be flying.

Also have to fly to singapore at end of holiday to fly home then.

Bangkok-Chiang Mai costs about 1600 THB with Airasia.com. If you're on a budget, you could take the night train for about 800 THB, it leaves at 7 PM and arrives in CM at 7 AM. That way you save one hotel night as well.

Nok Air (www.nokair.com) or Air-Asia. Check Thai but usually their prices are hopelessly uncompetitive - unless you get a free add on with an international flight...

Also try bangkok Airways

I believe there is a daytime option as well, leaving Bangkok at 08.30 and arriving at 20.30 - cheaper at 611 Baht. Maybe not the best time to arrive, but the upside is that you get to see a bit of the country.

State Railway of Thailand website.

There is also a site with some very good info on Thai train travel - Seat61.com.
