Vanishing beaches

Not sure than the studies of Chulalongkhorn University, predicting the vanishing of our nice Pattaya beaches within the 5 next years, are taking everything into account !

They talk about “changes in wave patterns, reducing deposits of sand on the beach, being exacerbated by increased beach use” (Bangkokpost)… but, Sorry:

 

All those new big hotels, plazas, condos, constructed along the seashore, without any structure allowing the water flooding during storms to be directed under the sea level by means of underground pipes are also washing all the sand of the beaches away.

This is occurring at many, many places from North Pattaya to Jomtien.

 

If this issue is not considered, spending many million baths to only reconstruct the beaches once more, could be a very big loss of money from the city., and No! some sandbags are not a solution.

 

Here are just 2 pictures, taken this evening when walking when along the Dongtan beach. Trees are struggling, power supply cables are dangerously apparent,…

But “May pen ray”! I’m sure action will be taken very fast…because I suspect that our loving authorities are reading this forums, maybe more than we do, and are very quick to react ;-}

I was surprised how much the beach had eroded in the space of just a year,especially the area around the Dusit hotel , north Pattaya and Naklua, large areas of the beach have been washed away , some of the trees are on the verge of falling into the sea, if something isn't done the sea will be over the beach road soon , a high tide doesn't bear thinking about.

Think there was an article in the Pattaya Mail about this just a couple of months ago

Yep civil engineering and good planning practices are alien concepts to Thais. I was suprised to read a while ago that Pattaya Bay was once filled with coral reef. I guess that is long gone.

Sorry did you say 'Nice beaches in Pattaya' If I had to go in the water on the main beach in Patts it would be in a wetsuit with a but plug..........................to much pollution

nobody said "nice beaches in Pattaya" just that the beach is eroding

I guess they have to make some long piers and possible some underwater walls a bit out to stop the eroding, basically stop the current. But I stayed at a highrise hotel just in front of the beach and the ocean looks like it becomes very deep very fast so not sure how easy it will be to build.
