Propecia

Wondering if anyone else out there uses Propecia and if they had side effects.

I used it off and on for about 7 years, didn't have any real side effects as far as I was aware of. I know for some it can cause serious issues like erectile dysfunction, etc.

I stopped for one year and tried alternative stuff like cremes, etc., but nothing worked and my hair started falling out again. So I decided to try again with the Propecia to see what happens.

Does anyone know how much they go for in Pattaya/Thailand?

I read some bad things about it's use in the long term. Apparently it messes with the liver and can end up shrinking your dick. In the end I settled for shaving my head and peace of mind.

Shaving head is an option but not sure it would suit my look.

Out of all the products I've used propecia was the only one that really stopped the shedding and had some regrowth.

Tried topical cremes, revivogen shampoo/serum, but none of it worked.

Losing your hair can be tough. I started losing mine at the age of 18 which is a pretty devastating thing to happen at that age. Unfortunately the truth is that nothing really works 100% in preventing hair loss and whatever does work has side effects.

Actually I think that so much of it is in the mind, if you are happy with yourself then other people will be. Despite you thinking that shaving wouldn't suit you I wonder if you have ever tried? Shaving is a choice whereas going bald isn't. It's true that the shaved look doesn't suit everybody and I must admit that I had my doubts before I tried it but afterwards I thought it was the best thing I ever did for my appearance.

You could spend a fortune on 'cures' but if you you want to try Propecia then it does appear to be effective and you might be lucky enough to avoid the reported side effects which could be reversible anyway.

I agree it is devastating to men. It's funny how women always have hair issues, but for guys hair issues are just as devastating. I started shedding when I was in my late 20's and progressed a few years to a bald spot on top of my head. I was one of the 'slow' shedders so it was gradual. A friend was using propecia and recommended it so I decided to go for it. It stopped the shedding immediately, and there was noticeable regrowth a year later.

I didn't have any side effects but I thought I would try other options and see if I could save some money and ween myself off future issues. Nothing worked and my hair started shedding again and it sucked.

I will definitely try to keep an open mind about shaving or at least keeping it a very close trim. Maybe later on there will be a better treatment option.

In answer to your question branded Propecia is expensive in Pattaya. It's about 1200Baht for 28 1mg tablets. There is a generic verion made by Siam Pharmaceutical that is about 600 Baht in Pattaya for 28 1mg pills. You would be best off getting it from Bangkok. There are 2 chemists side by side right next to Nana Plaza that sell the Siam ones for 400 baht.

Thanks for this information. I'll look for the generic version next time I go, I ordered generic versions of this drug before online and had no issues with it. Since I have the prescription container for propecia from my doctor, I could just fill the bottle up with the generic version.

Hi LonelyMan,

You should look into getting a hair transplant instead if you're worried about your hair. I'm looking into it myself in case my hair loss gets any worse; these days, the results can be amazing - quite a few celebrities have been getting them lately - here's an example: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1335912/James-Nesbitts-bald-patch-obsession-Would-let-man-spend-7k-hide-it.html

By the way, just in case anyone is thinking of taking Propecia, please have a look at the Propecia side-effects forum - it will scare the sh*t out of you:

http://www.propeciahelp.com/

I was scared of losing my hair and read about Propecia on the internet in 1999. Little was known about the side-effects then. I took it for 4 years and quit it 7 years ago. The side-effects I suffered have not gone away in the 7 years since I quit.

Yet, I consider myself lucky as looking at what some others have had happen to them, I got off easy.

But now, finally the truth about Propecia is gradually coming out. In Canada, a group of men have launched a class-action lawsuit against the pharma company. I'm sure more cases like this will follow: http://www.propeciaclassaction.com/

The only thing that really works for baldness is a hair transplant. IMHO anything else is a waste of time and money. The best price you will ever find is Dr. Ron Chao in Los Angeles. http://www.hairlab.net/doctor/

That is scary but I have not had any side effects (crossing fingers).

This is an option in the near future. For now I can still 'hide' it by growing the hair and smoothing it over. If it gets more bald then I'll start looking at this as a serious option.

One of the side effects (albeit rare one) is permanent impotence.

Blow losing my hair, I'd rather lose one of my hands than the use of my dick. What's left after that?

The active ingredient is Proscar (or some variant of it)

You can get 3 months of generic tablets for around 1500 baht.

Just like to chime in that I've been using 1mg finasteride daily for nearly 7 years and have no side effects so far...maybe I am one of the lucky ones. My hairline has pretty much stayed the same during that time so I'd say overall it's definitely been worthwhile.

I also use proscar as it's the same active ingredient as propecia but costs much less. Proscar comes in generic and can be purchased in 5mg pills. I just use a pill cutter to quarter them and call it good. I pay about $100 per year for this treatment. Good luck!

Edited to add that proscar is supposed to be good for your prostate as well in men over 40.

Well I am one of the statistics and it failed horribly on me. I was with several girls and the dreaded side effects became known. Gave me a case of severe limpus dickus. Beware.

going from full thick dark hair and goodlooks into looking really ugly as a baldie have completly turned my life around into complete hopelessness and depression, my youthful days of getting lots of pretty normal girls without much trouble are totally over, from now on pay for sex will probably be the only way until death and that pretty much sucks, im not even 30, !"

have not tried anything yet. eating those hormoneblockers? scares the shit out of me , and i read about people eating them for years without much diff at all, risking of becoming impotent or limp dick with apparently very very low chance of regrowth does not seem like a good idea at least not to me

I used to take this (well I took finnastride) and will pro'lly take some again soon as it worked - my hair returned and the white hairs turned black

but it gave me serious side effects including ED problems - which I still have not recovered from and it seems like Viagra, etc are ineffective now :-(

the endocronoligists in UK seriously advice against taking finna

I've been on it for about two years and have yet to have a negative side effect of any kind. After about four months my hair thickened up really nice to the point that it was noticeable to others. The best long term effect though is shrinking the size of your prostate. I don't take five minutes to pee anymore. Big benefit. :ThankGod1:

im still pondering the question to take the risk and start with the pills..

i lost about 50% hair on top of head and worse at sides...

did it actually regrown hair`? or made the hairs more thick again?

is it worth taking this risk? im not at all happy with the way it looks now, is there any hope to get the hair back?!

seems alot of people dont have any effects at all more than just Thinking it have slowed down the shedding process

i guess i should join in with the crowd at the hairloss forums for this kind of talk, i never thought losing hair would affect my self esteem as much as it does!

I was at about 15% hair loss when I started. At 50% you should probably look in a different direction. You should have started much sooner than waiting 'til 50% loss. For me Propecia has been a win/win proposition unlike my experience with Viagara which I can't take at all. Good Luck.

Pease visit the Propecia Side Effects forum: - http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/index.php

I implore you to have a proper look on there and then ask yourself - 'Do I want this to happen to me?'

Propecia is Poison. Its' method of action is NOT yet fully understood by Merck or anyone else.

If you're worried about your hair, look into a hair transplant. They seem to be a very good option now. Wayne Looney has had very good results!

Get a hair transplant. You won't believe the results. It really does work, and best of all it's not detectable.
