I understand its not really safe to leave any valuable on the room , so what do you guys do with your laptop ?

looks like it wont fit any safe box and carrying it around where you go does not seem like a fun option ,

any solution to this?

Thanks in advance

John

I just leave it on the table. Normally, I don't pick up freelancers, so the girls in my room work for a bar and are accountable. Therefore, it's unlikely they'll take my laptop and run.

Some of those safes VERY small.

Hi John,

Swing by any computer store and get a locking cable to attach the laptop to a piece of furniture in the room. You can google it and see what they look like.

Have a great trip in paradise!

Cheers...

I guess from time to time BM's do have problems with things disappearing from their rooms, but if you consider how few posts of that nature appear on PA with nearly 50,000 members reporting in it's probably not a huge issue. We soon get to hear about any accommodation that's dodgy or which bars/girls to avoid.

If you stay in a reasonable hotel or guest-house, are just a little careful about who you bring back for the night, I don't really think you have too much to worry about. Last trip my laptop, cameras and phones were laying all over my hotel room, I had no problems - but maybe I was just lucky first time aroundGoldenSmile1.gif.

Cheers

some solid tips here - thanks all! :)

will have to look into that locking cable thingy - never saw or heard about one - but it can be just what i need,

i am working from my laptop so i cant really afford myself to lose it - even if the chances are small - i don't want to be paranoid and have thoughts about it while i am not on my room.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington_Security_Slot

Kensington is a brand name most associated with the cable locks, but you can easily get other brands or generic locks for a lot less.

I picked up a Kensington branded one on sale here in the US for $15 I believe. While bolt cutters will cut right thru most of the cables, but it'll easily deter casual theft attempts. I doubt most BGs carry around a pair of bolt/cable cutters in their purses...

I've got an Acer 1810TZ - basically only slightly less powerful than a full size laptop but netbook size. It fits easily into most safes in Pattaya. Another option is locking it in your suitcase (as I did on Phi Phi).

Never had any issues with my Laptop. Just left it on the table beside my bed. Was staying a in a guesthouse and both cleaning girls were totally trustworthy, once i even left a few hundred baht on the table that i forgot about, when i got back it was still there.

If you want to be sure then i'd go with the lock option for extra security and peace of mind

I've never had a problem with things disappearing. It's probably because everything I have is crap. So that's my advice to you - just bring your crappy stuff.
