I am interested to find out if any of you have bought an open air ticket to Bangkok in the past? And if so how much it cost

Idealy England-Bangkok but any place would be cool so I can get a rough idea how much they cost

also known as an open ended ticket, these have become almost obsolete. Almost every fare now has a rule that ticket is only good for 12 months from the departure date. Are you planning on being away more than 12 months? What's the reason you want one?

 

If you're away for less than 12 months, just book your flight with a random date in the future (the later the better), then it usually only costs about $60 (plus any increase in fare due to higher booking class) to amend the date of the return leg if you do it direct with the airline.

Thanks for your answer .. My plan is to try and stay in pattaya for about 3 months so much less than 12 months.

Just ensure that the return fare allows date changes and at what cost (contained within the 'fare rules) which most mainstream airlines do though unsure of budget carriers like Air Asia (I've done over 50 countries and never had an issue.

 

Change direct with airline, not through your agent. Much cheaper

So it should only cost roughly $60 or in my case £35 ish to arrange a return date??

Yes I change my flights often. Most recently was two weeks ago I turned up at Heathrow, went to British Airways desk wanting to bring my flight forward to that same night. Charged me $60 or £39

 

However if you buy a promotion fare (extremely cheap) the cost will be higher. But for everyday run of mill flights, that's about all it should costs! still much cheaper than 2x One way tickets

All these changes fees depend on the ticket rule!

 

Before buying a ticket check with the airline to see when and how it can be changed and what the charges are. The fees may vary depending on if you've already made the outbound or not.

 

There are no fixed rules or fees - even with an airline. It may cost nothing, or everything, ie. unchangable.

 

So...... Check before you buy!!

Most airlines have something like:

1 month tickets

3 months tickets

6 months tickets

12 months tickets.

 

The longer the ticket is valid the more expensive they are.

 

If you buy a 1 month ticket and want to change your date so you return after 1 month then you will be charged 2 fees which would cost about £200-£300 in total.

If you buy a 3 month ticket and you return within the 3 month period you will only have the one fee to pay which is roughly the same as others have stated (depends on airline but around £40-£100), but if you change your return date to later than the 3 month period, you will have to pay the 2 fees.

 

You change your return dates by contacting you airline and not you agent.
