My cousin will be in Chiang Mai with the wife & 4-year old daughter in March for 3 or 4 nights.

Anyone have recommendations for hotels somewhere near the night bazaar (Tha Pae area I think) for up to 1500 baht a night ?

Thanks

The Imm hotel is right in front of the Old City Gates so about or 3 blocks away from the night market.

It is a nice new clean basic hotel.

This includes the standard buffet breakfast.

If it's too far to walk to the night bazzar with a little-un then there is Tuk-tuks right out the front of the hotel.

I will stay there again if I get to Chiang Mai again.

No recommendations, but I wouldn't stay here at the Downtown Inn, linked to several deaths over the last 6 months.

An article regarding the unexplained deaths at the Downtown Inn, Chiang Mai was published in the Dail Mail today (August 17th 2011) The article stated that a total of six deaths have now occured at this hotel, the most likely reason being a chemical spray containing Pyrophus - a potentially! lethal chemical banned from indoor use in many other countries. It also mentions that this may be a widespread practice throughout Thai hotels. Are any long term resident board members aware of other 'unexplained' deaths over the years that could be explained by this? Extremely worrying!!

The Chiang Mai Plaza hotel is a great hotel to stay in when in Chiang mai.

Last few times ive visited Chiang Mai - ive always stayed at the Plaza.. It has great sized rooms (although they could be updates a touch), a fantastic Buffet Breakie (inc in room rate) - and is within 5 mins walk to the Bazaar.

Ohhh and i should add - ive always got the cheapest rates using Agoda for my stay at the Plaza

I was in Chiang Mai in July just after the reported deaths at Downtown. It was deserted and wouldn't be surprised if it has closed its doors for ever. Pity, I stayed there 18 months ago and it was very good value for money and very convenient for Night Bazaar, Anusarn Market and Walking Street.
