say they tell you that from now on you have the additional

option of flying to LOS with your air ticket costing you

30 to 40 percent less but the plane

you will be sitting in is remotely controlled by a pilot

who is sitting back at your departure airport ...

would you fly on that plane ?

So, no.

Removing the onboard pilot would not result in a 30% - 40% reduction in ticket price. Crew cost simply isn't that big of a factor in the total Cash Operating Cost of a given flight. Even more to the point, the remote pilot would still have to have the same training and certifications as an onboard one, so the whole thing is moot more or less.

Maybe an automated approach with a synthetic (HAL-like) pilot? The validation and certification costs would be astronomical.

Interesting idea, but i'd prefer the 2 chaps behind the controls on the plane with me. Call me old fashioned

I'll stick with real pilots thanks, but i could live with none to minimal cabin service for a 30% price cut. Maybe replace the kitchen area with some vending machines lol

I agree, I wouldn't fly without 2 people in the cockpit whatever price reduction they could propose.

In-flight and airport personel could be reduced.

yes !, but only if it is a capsule style deal with ejection seats.

like F-111's or B52's.

just gotta keep the over ocean travel down. i.e, perth to LOS is good, just a short worry between here and indo.

awsome idea though !, might contact the CIA global preditor engineers and see if they're up for it !.

I wouldn’t mind, as long as I still get my beer served.

After all, flying is just learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

I like the way you think Slappy! Why not start a business with the Tourasia team.

Our new model is capable of taking two Frenchmen or 6 Aborigines direct to (or should I say into) Pattaya beach. Flight options are one way and offers Cattle class (Outside) and Business class (Inside)

haha nice idea Slapman ! there are loads of old US and Aussie F-111s , available to

be refurbished and put back in "service" these days ... Maybe Richard Branson will like to

co-finance the idea.

Old second hand Navy 2 seater side by side A-6 intruders and their larger brothers 4 seater EA-6B and the S3 Vikings

are also available in large numbers nowdays....

I would actually pay more to do a nice front seat ride one of those all the way to LOS

while somebody else takes care of all the flying and navigation hassle

I could get up and take a piss whenever I want, eat and drink whenever I want and

look at some good movies on the way ....

.. but considered the costs.. in the end I would rather stick to my usual economy class flight and keep the money

for the fun in South East Asia ( note : not necessarily only in Thailand )

If the captain isn't going down with the ship, neither will I. Played too many video games where you can just restart. My answer is a fat NOOOOO!!!

I used to work for Honeywell, who make the majority of cockpit navigation instruments. They've demonstrated flights that can take off, travel and land with no pilots. If you land in the fog the pilot isn't doing it anyway, the instruments are. That said, the pilots still have to be on board to take care of emergencies.

i dont know if you are aware but approx 90% of passenger flights the only job the pilot does is to get the plane off the ground. and drive it around the Runway before take off.

rarely does the captain or first officer ever pilot the plane in flight. This include the landing.

the pilot is there incase of emergency. I too would not feel comfortable on a plane without a pilot either.

The main thing that eases my mind while flying is that hopefully there's a guy up front who is as afraid of dying as me.

People said the same about remote control trains. Now we accept that there is no driver on the train in Metro systems all over the world.

So we will fly with air planes that have no one to control it except a computer.

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know
