Sloooooooow page loads

Access to the forum tonight is frustratingly slow. The main page headers load fine, but anything else is taking up to 2 minutes to load while the status bar shows 'Connecting to j.maxmind.com'. I'm presuming this is some sort of plug-in or analytical tool, but it's making progress very painful...

 

Thanks for bringing the problem to our attention. It seems everyone is experiencing the same issue, including the mod team. The problems is being fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

J.Maxmind is a Java exploit trojan thats why your browser is slooow. Try updating your Java, clearing your browser cache or running a virus check.

Virus check was my first action before posting. I'm satisfied with my antivirus software and haven't had one in the 5 years since using Zone Alarm - a root-kit check showed negative too. Java is up to date... Google showed j.maxmind as some sort of plug-in for targetting ads geographically, but it's unclear as to whether it comes with forum software or is an optional plug-in by owners.

 

Good news is that things are a lot faster today.

Maxmind is a geo ip location database. http://www.maxmind.com/app/ip-location

It could well be hooked up to that map at the bottom of all pages. I too have been having slow loads at periodic intervals today.

Even had a couple of total timeouts.

Other sites are working fine.

I rebooted, ran a virus and spyware sweep and deleted all Windows temp files. Seems fine now.

It's still running bad for me and I use Ubuntu so I doubt it's virus related.

After a recovery (of sorts) - it's now back to snail pace. This time I'm getting 'waiting for gia-analytics.com' while the page hangs. Any chance of a response from the tech guys ? It's not happening on any other site I visit.

There seems to be an intermittent problem, we don't know what's causing it yet :(

Seems extremely characteristic of a DDOS attack, slow response from the server and sometimes the server doesn't respond, definitely look into that, seems like a decently high level attack but then again I don't know how the site is hosted

Can also report extreme slowness off the forum, every 5 minutes the servers seems to pass out making any connection impossible for a few minutes. This started for me about yesterday at 17-18h GMT+1.

 

Other websites work fine for me. I access this site on 3 different computer (Vista, OSX and iOS operating systems) so I'm pretty sure it's not a virus or computer issue.
