I would not even bother bringing a phone. You can pick one up and minutes anywhere in Thailand. Probably cost about 35 bucks with about 500 minutes. Good thing is you can re use the phone and just buy sim on the next trip.

1-2-call sim card is usually 50-100 baht and i believe it is roughly 7-8 baht a minute when calling the States.

use some of these "front numbers" and u should get cheaper calls: 009,008,007,004.

If you bring your notebook you can easily call other Skype users for free (also video calls).

 

To call landlines or mobiles you need to buy a SkypeOut credit; normally EUR 10 to start with.

 

Such calls cost about EUR 0.01 per minute.

 

You can also call on Skype in most internet shops and hotels.

 

For local calls you can buy a SIM card at the airport and top up tickets at any 7ELEVEN.

 

European mobiles are generally suitable for Thailand, but not American mobiles unless you have a quad.

 

(In Thailand there is no 3G network yet.)

 

Cheap Nokia’s can be bought around THB 1,000.

thanks a lot. i have a unlocked world phone (blackberry) i would just have to pic up a sim from123. as for skype i would only use that in my room. thanks a lot for the info guys
