Firefox unresponding?

Not Responding comes up far too much on my PC nowadays. XP Pro is installed. It happens in My Computer too quite often when I try to unistall a programme?

I have scanned the whole system with Threatfire free and Avira Free and they cant find anything nasty.

Avira did root out a couple of Trojans a week or so ago and the computer is working quite well most of the time.

I have uninstalled Avira now as it didnt like Threatfire or the other way round.

Cant uninstall Threatfire. Incidentally.........

Any ideas oh clever ones.......

I had similar problems , it would take forever to navigate from page to page, I could not find any virus either ,....BUT .... I downloaded Google chrome and have not had a problem since, Firefox is still on there I just don' use it.

There was a segment on computers a few months back I did not hear all the conversation but it was something to do with someone having problems with Firefox and the techie mentioned something called firesheep as I was working I could not hang around for him to finish.

Anyway try Google chrome you do not have to uninstall Firefox.

You could try installing the new version of Firefox (v4).

I did when it was first released...only problem was all my add-ons didn't work and the new layout kept me guessing where things are. I've had to crank things back to 3.6 until the add-on developers catch up.

Firefox not responding is a daily thing for me and I've got a fairly new laptop.

uninstall Threatfire see here _http://www.ehow.com/how_5905025_remove-threatfire-computer.html, under Resources

Had similar problem with firefox, just download & install same or newer version

Additionally you might consider de-fragging ur hard drive,as this should speed ur processes up.

I used to have trouble with Firefox slowing down when I had lots of tabs open, and it used to use a lot of memory etc.

Fortunately, I came across this excellent guide which fixed up all my problems and made the whole browser faster and smoother.

I don't know why it doesn't come "out of the box" already set up like that.

Thanks for this old bean. Its a bit complex for yours truly but i would give it a try if I could work out how the hell to read your info whilst actually doing the biz?

just open two windows, and copy and paste the info from the instructions to the other one with the "about:config" open.

Just do it one step at a time, you'll be right!

Firefox has been going downhill for a while now. The main reason is too many add-ons active in the background. If you want to see how much memory Firefox uses have a look under the Processes tab in Task Manager. Way too greedy. I stopped using it a few weeks ago and switched to Google Chrome and my browsing is way way faster.

Firefox add-ons often cause this. Try disabling them and see if the problem goes away. If it does, start enabling each one in turn to see which one is causing the problem.

This type of fault is highly likely to be an installation problem, I periodically use the restart discs and format my HD. By doing this you'll never have for very long any hard to shift nasties, and applications which don't always install correctly will generally work afterwards.

Fed up with Firefox 3 and 4 not responding a lot so I have got rid of it altogether. Much better now.......
