I plan to live in Thiland for 6 months and then return to the UK for 3 months to work.. ( SELF EMPLOYED) Sadly I am over 50.

I would come in on a One Year Multi-Entry (stretchable to 15 months). That covers your exits and re-entries at no additional cost, though you will have border runs to do every 90 days.

Then you have plenty of time to decide. Getting your first married Visa (if that's what you want) might be a bit of a palava. They have the option to come and check your situation etc. You also have time to work out how to play your bank/income (400k I think?).

Anyway, a so called "Married Visa" is really an Extension of Stay for which you need an 'O' Visa in the first place, so the Extension of Stay (Retirement) might be simpler as you're over 50 (800k). Personally I would go for the Retirement option if you're OK for funds, but again, you have plenty of time to decide if you start with the One Year Multi Entry.

He is correct but I wouldn't be too concerned about the funds needed on the initial visa if you apply before you go. When I have applied for mine they haven't even ask how much I earned or had. However, the requirements vary from office to office and with time. Certainly it will be a factor if you apply for an extension of stay. Some guys I know go home to visit family every year so time it to get a new visa at the same time.

Sorry, did I make it sound as though the 400/800k referred to the One Year Multi Entry or do you mean for your first Extension of Stay?

I was never asked either for the One Year ME. We do keep hearing reports that they are tightening up on these at some Consulates (esp Oz?) but it sounds as though the OP has all the right answers for even the fussiest re why he needs one.

As he's in UK, Hull Consulate is his friend. GoldenSmile1.gif

No, but I can see that it could raise some doubt in someone's head... :GoldenSmile1:

I expect you're right and no doubt DF will be along in due course to prove it. GoldenSmile1.gif
