What does this mean?

I'm not a newbie but I wondering if anyone can tell me what (so-penny ) means exactly . I know it's sort of means prostitute but I think it must be something softer than that, an euphemism something like ''working girl'' . A bar girl I was with describe herself as a so-penny once , so l don't think she was calling herself a whore . I would never call a bar girl anything bad so is there a word about, that describes what they are or what they do, without being offensive . so- penee so-pennee , I'm not sure how you spell it .

โสเภณี "So-pay-nee" means a prostitute, afaik the meaning is neutral, not soft but not bad either.

 

The euphemisms I usually hear are "Poo-ying Bar" - Bargirl, or "Poo-ying Borigaan" - Service girl.

Honestly anything you call Thai people can be offensive to them depending on the situation, better not try to be clever and just speak english, they like that better anyway.. .
