What Airlines Are You Using to Get to Bangkok from U.K?

Take a break

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Was wondering what airlines you would recommend for travelling out of the UK to Bangkok? And how far in advance is best to book a ticket for the best price? I've seen return flights for around £600... Is this reasonable? Trying to save as much as possible for the 24/7 debauchery when I get there! :Chokdee:

Don't book a flight during the UK school holidays if you can as prices tend to increase a lot.

£600 sounds OK and it is usually better (not always though) to book in advance. You cannot book more than 10 months in advance! I tend to book 4 to 5 months in advance.

I take it you have looked at the flight website such as ebookers, kayak, etc?

Good luck in your searches.

Forgot to add, I usually fly with EVA Air, Thai or ETIHAD.

Recent years have picked up £400 flights and seen some via india and middle east less than £400 but those days are gone due to airport departure tax and fuel prices. Depends what time of year you go but direct can be £500 - £560 - £600 and change over in middle east or india maybe reduce price by £100

Oman Air london to Muskat to Bangkok have some good deals at times

This June I'm going with EVA direct at £520 but that was booked in late 2010

2 decent price comparisson sites are skyscanner and kayak

Booked with ebookers in Jan for Nov (£597 + £10 credit card charge)from Newcastle, AND only a 3 hour stop-over in Dubai there and back.

Flying with Emerites as they give the most leg room (36 inches), both my mate and I are 6'2" and well built, so we are comfortable.

Also went onto Emerites site and booked seats with only 2 next to each other so my mate and I have no one sitting next to us

Have tried all other options and airports, but Newcastle still best option for us as we both come from Sunderland.

Flown with Qatar, Etihad, Emirates and EVA...no complaints with any of them really, although the direct flights are getting more appealing. You should be able to get something for around £500 with 1-stop or around £540 for direct. These are current quotes I'm getting for late Nov / Dec. Try setting up an alert with a site like Kayak for your dates and book when the price looks good to you. You will always find a cheaper quote the second you've committed (it's an unwritten rule), but if you're happy with what you paid this won't matter. I've usually found 6 months prior to flight to be a good time to start looking.

I booked my flight in Dec 2010 for my trip in July cost me £608 the same flight the year before I paid over £800 because I did not book in advance as the post above states look at flight websites, Etihad has some great offers in the low season, seen flight for £440 in Mar, May, Sept-Oct.

Cheers

Yes Big Al, as i'm working in Cumbria at the moment i was looking at Newcastle. Good times as well. Emirates are also doing the same price from Manchester. (£597). I'm heading out in May so i will probably use either of these airports. Never flown from Newcastle, so that could be a first.

When i went last November I paid £540.00. I am going again in April. This time I am going from Gatwick via Dubai I have paid £485.00. For the same dates going direct it was going to be £650.00. This is the frist time I have had a stop over I am in Dubai for 3 hours before my flight o Bangkok, about the same when I come back. My frist trip in 2009 direct flight was about £460.00 so you can see how much it has gone up.

Thanks for the advice guys, think its going to have to be Emirates for me with a stop in Dubai because theres not many companies fly out of Glasgow and theres no chance im going all the way back down to London again! :Hit_Self:

Any of you lads flown out of Dubai before? If so do you know if you're allowed to leave the airport if its a long stopover like 12hours+

Cheers

Etihad for me...

London-Bangkok last November, return mid-december, £443,10 return...

What makes me come back again and again is their frequent traveller program! A return tickets gives you 13.000 miles, 3 return tickets 39.000 miles, and they have got free tickets London-Bangkok starting at about 40.000 miles!!!

If you are flexible with your dates, you get a "buy 3, get 1 free"!!!!!

I guess that this won't be beaten by other airlines!

And if you fly twice with them in a 12 months period, you get upgraded to "silver" guest with access to their Lounges!

Check out www.priorityPass.com

You can pay £69 per year for a pass, go in any 1st class lounge and get all you want to drink and eat at an admission cost of either £15 0r £25 credited to your credit card. If you have long stopovers well worth having a look.

I've used it since 2004, well worth the money, I think (it's £7 per pint in Dubai)

You can read about it on the website.

Think I'll check out that prioritypass website might be worth paying a bit extra to get into 1st class lounges, some of the flights out of glasgow have like 18 hour stopovers in dubai....thats a whore of a length of time in an airport! :Beer1:

£7 a pint?! Jesus! Nothing will shock me after being in singapore though.... £8 a pint, £10 a nip at night

Cheers for the tips lads.

Yeah I know its a cunt of a journey but would rather be stuck in Dubai airport than on a train from Dundee to London....Think I'll try and get a cheap flight down to heathrow and get a direct fligght to bangkok from there..

You lads think that booking in advance is the best way or chancing it and getting a late deal?

Cheers

I always book about 4 months in advance on Eva. Normally pay 550-650 depending on time of year.
