Posted (edited)

Hey guys,im going back to Pattaya in May and im heading up north for a ride with the Thai girl, going back to here home which is about 6 hours ride.

Dont worry guys,i can ride and have a full licence to drive and ride and have been riding all my life.

I will also have an Internation DL and travel insurance as well.

But what i need to know does anyone know where i can hire a Harley or large cruiser or large sports bike in Pattaya.some where that is well known for good service and resonable prices.

Also would like to hear from personal experiences.

Im not interested in riding a scooter, sitting in a car or taking a bus.im riding or im not going.lol

some advise would be great.

cheers

I`ve never seen a place like Pattaya for bike hire and cheep as f**k !You cant move for them, from scooters to superbikes and medium to large cruisers and if you have been before you MUSThave seen them,I`ve rented many big bikes with no hassles,my friend dropped one though and they guy came with another bike on a pick up for him to our hotel ( after he paid for the damage of course )1st class service, dont know how far out of the area you can take them though, probably up to individual hirer.

I know you can hire Harleys and Sportsbikes in Patts, I'm not sure where you can hire a Harley as there not my cup of tea. I hired a CBR600 and later on a R6 for a period of time (Plenty of places on Beach Road with Sports bike and Jap cruisers). They did make it pretty clear to me though that it was for riding around Patts only and not going up country, but like anything a bit of money and i;m sure it would be negotiable.

There was a Car rental place in Sio Diana that had a 600 for rent (I think a Kawasaki? ZX600 not the sports bike but the naked version) that was ok to go anywhere.

I rented from one of the places on Beach Rd; various places around Soi7/8 or Soi Post Office/Soi Pattayaland 1 & 2.

Not seen any Harleys but mostly Jap stuff, you might get a Jap copy of a Harley.

Me and a couple of mates hired Kawasaki ER6n's and went to Kanchanaburi/3 Pagodas Pass, did 1600kms. Just gave them a good clean when we got back, they didn't check the mileage. Hire document says you can go no further than 50kms from Pattaya.

Ok thanks guys.I did see many places in Pattaya when i was there, but did not see harleys or such, only the scooters and the r6 types.was just trying for a reliable place to hire from.but ill give anything a go,ill take the TG with me and might be alright as she is pretty switched on.was trying to stay away from the pure sports bikes like the R6 as it would come pretty uncomfortable for the bike ride for the TG,but the jap cruiser coppies might be alright.guess ill look right into it when i return.

thanks again guys

They will want either your passport or a deposit of a few thousand baht, they might ask to see your license from back home, didn't ask me. If you give them your passport they will give back to you once you return the bike otherwise if you give them deposit they will refund that. I personally gave them my passport, I figured if they tried to say I damaged the bike and extort me for money I would let them keep it and then go to my embassy in Bangkok and say I lost it and get a replacement.

Never had any issues so it never became a problem. I probably wouldn't do it again, unless you want to go out of Patts a Sportsbike is pretty useless as you're pretty much riding around in first or second gear, scooter is more practical.

goldcoastjon,,,,thanks for yes..

When I was in kanchanburi, I left my passport as a deposit , I was OK with that.

I do like the idea, of letting them keep the passport if they where trying to get money out of me, then off to the embassy to get another. This wouldn't be a smart move for me because, I have a multi entry visa, and my visa for India is also within.

So I will try to leave a cash deposit.

OK NEXT QUESTION

Cash deposit, just wondering, what amount should I leave ? Yes this will depend on which bike I take,

Let's have a few examples.

cash deposit on scooter, would be around 2,ooo - 4,ooo thb, would you say that's a good guess?

cash deposit on Honda CBR. 10,ooo - 20,ooo ??

Please if any one had paid cash as a deposit, please let us know how much you paid and what bike you had :)

Hopefully this will save some BM's a few bhat

If anyone asks for 10-20K deposit for a Sportsbike tell em your going somewhere else. I rented a Yellow 2010 R6 with 600k's on the clock, virtually brand new. The Thai chap said either Passport or money deposit, off memory I think it was something like 3-5K I rented it for a week and it cost me 6K, not that cheap compared to a scooter but hell couldn't rent anything like that back home so it was a bargain. Not sure about scooters? My TG has one so I used that when I didn't have the bigger bike

Hi sorry don,t have his number did have on my old sim card but have new one now! from beach road where pizza hut is turn onto that soi and he is just on the left! right outside pizza hut!

u get two helmets but no insurance! I don,t know anywhere where u get insurance on superbikes in pattaya! maybe u can somewhere but still then i would not trust this! damage a bike in pattaya then u pay for that bike thats the rules! 1 more thing when hireing bikes don,t tell them ur real hotel where ur staying make one up! the reason for this is u tell them where u keep the bike at night beacause they know where your hotel is.U get up in morning maybe the bike been nicked and then u end up paying for the bike and then when ur going home the bike then appears back at the hire place! they have been to your hotel with spare keys and took the bike!

Good tip, cheers buddy. Last thing I want is to hire a bike and let them pull a stunt like that on me!
