Fuck Chaweng ! Stay in Lamai. Lamai Inn 99, Cheap & right on the sand. Beer Bars - 200m. Great Beach Bar 'Chillin' next door. Pool rooms newer and better, beach rooms have lanai right on the sand. If you've got 2 guys, get 1 of each. wj

Samui

The island resort & spa on the beach road is good value.

Right on the beach & close to soi green mango where the main nightlife is.

Agreed. I have stayed there, basic, but nice pool and spot on for the price...

FX Chaweng has all of the things you ask for. Very close to nightlife! Rent a bike from hotel and be on the beach in around 3-4min. Rates are around 900B for nice spacious rooms that even look nice. They have a brand new wing that's a bit more expencive, but not worth it when comparing. I booked through asiarooms.com

Go to Lamai if you wanna be alone. Dead place...

Baan Chaweng Beach Resort & Spa was really nice on two trips with my thai gf (now wife). Right on beach, in centre of town but a bit over your budget. Some places along there are a bit old and clapped out. Really nice being able to step out onto the beach day or night. I personally wouldnt stay outside Chaweng, too quiet, I like having bars/restaurants and a bit of nightlife...

You guys are right. I wasn't paying attention. He's going in Oct. Probably the slowest month of the year. Check KS weather charts 1st. I'd bump it back to Nov - Dec if you want to do beach. Chaweng is the only place on KS to be 'monsoon season'. Don't book anything 'till you get to BKK. You won't need to. It could definitely be raining 'cats and dogs' every day. There won't be many attractive BGs on the island (if any), but no competition either. High season - Lamai is way better. wj

Dude reggae is dead at the moment. I was the only farang there one night last week, honestly.

Only around half the bars open, and only ugly chicks.

Since the floods everyone wants to sell up down there, shame really.
