Hi everyone,

I usually bring my unlocked Blackberry to LOS when I visit, which has been priceless in keeping me connected to people I meet.

I usually go to the 7-11, buy a happy sim card, put it in my phone, and it works. Is there a way to buy internet access-enabled sim card or minutes for my phone? Have you guys ever had any luck getting your out-of-country phone to have mobile internet? I would love to tweet or surf on my phone while travelling. Thanks.

Best bet is to go to TukCom and chat to one of the guys there on the mobile phone level of the shopping centre.

They can fix you up with anything you need

no need to talk to those crooks.

Once you have a Happy SIM card you need to register for a data plan otherwise it will eat up all your prepaid credit.

Just by way of a threadjack (sorry) if anyone is here relatively short term (month or more) and wants their own laptop connection, I have a Hutch 3G Dongle available if they pay the monthly contract cost.

It's on unlimited access and costs 1k/month.

Edit - probably more suitable for someone working online or downloading a lot and wanting to leave it on 24/7.

I have a true simcard and everytime i'm in LOS for my holidays I just get the 600bht package that gives me free 3G and wifi for a month. There are other packages available, I use a Iphone 4.

I can find no such package. The closest I saw from True is a 699B 3Gb package:

The 600 baht True package is an older packaged that was offered before the iPhone 4 came out. Now you have to pay 399 (500mb) or 699 (1gb)

I use AIS 12Call, bought a freedom sim. I signed up for a 100mb per month plan with 50 free SMS and 50 MMS. I think it's 199 a month. It's not 3G, but I don't use my phone for internet things as much, mostly checking email and minor things. You can change packages online at AIS here

Hi there

I would be interested in using this for a couple if weeks starting end March. Will pay the whole month fee. Staying in hotel and internet prices way too high.

How can I get hold of this when in Patts?

Thank you.

I can't quote you because you've not put anything outside the Quote box.

I can't PM you because you haven't got it enabled.

If you find this post PM me and I'll get back to you.

You can get a AIS 12call SIM. Then activate Blackberry BIS. It's only THB90 for 3 days. This BIS includes unlimited chat, push mail and surfing via blackberry internet browser. Then set up email. After 3 days, if there is enough balance in your SIMI, it will auto renew another 3 days.

Once you at airport, look for the AIS counter. YOu can get the SIM there and they will help you to activate the Blackberry BIS. You can also ask any question in doubt. The service staff are very helpful and patient. This is what I did last time i went BKK.

Thanks for referring to the offering from AIS.

Their Web pages appear to be somewhat Blackberry-centric. Are there equivalent, non Backberry-specific offerings from AIS (or another mobile operator)?

I'm looking for a mobile Internet (prepaid) package in addition to normal telephony for a non Blackberry (Android) handheld for a 2-4 week stay. In case somebody has recommendations on that, I'd appreciate a hint.

Does your phone support 850 Mhz? If so you can get a 3G connection in Pattaya from True, If not you will be stuck with edge which is slow. DTAC has plenty of plans by the day, hour, volume of data, etc.

I think so, the data sheet (Samsung Galaxy S I9000) quotes "Quad-Band, WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900". I'll ill check out DTAC.
