How to move to Thailand?

My wife and I have been thinking about moving to the Pattaya area of Thailand sometime within the next few years. We are both from the US and currently living on Guam and have several questions pertaining what we need to do to move to Thailand.

 

What are the citizenship requirements?

Is citizenship mandatory?

Housing cost?, we would be looking to buy or build a 3 bedroom home

Can non citizens own and operate a business if not can non native citizens? We plan to open a bar

well from what I have heard but others will add their info

 

cannot become. some have said after certain amount of time so not to sure if thats true

cannot own house and land, as other countries. can own a condo in your name. but do a forum search

can own a business but have to employ a certain number of thais to do the work etc

Reading your question, I think that you have to start with the basics (no offence, everyone was at this stage once).

 

I suggest to get in touch with The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and get some facts about living and doing business in LOS.

 

Maybe you can join one of their regular chamber meetings.

Most of the member representatives are quite nice lads and very helpful.

 

I received plenty of information from the German-Thai Chamber of Commmerce before I moved to LOS, which helped a lot to avoid general newbie mistakes.

Several people here are living here on Tourist visas and crossing borders every 90 days. Depending on you are, you might look into retirement Visas.

 

As for the hose and business, you can create a business that can own both. I am sure others have better information than I on the subject.
