Bahrain F1GP Cancelled

Bloody typical. Was going to be a nice early start to the season and now the opener won't be until Melbourne on the 27th.

I think it's a bit inconsiderate. Democracy could have waited an extra week or 2. They'll soon realise it's not what it's cracked up to be anyway and wish they had the old Autocratic/Dynastic/Dictatorship style of government back!

What if this new fangled Democracy demands hit the F1 circus?

The old Autocratic/Dynastic/Dictatorship style of Bernie Eccelstone might be under threat!

Bahrain last year was a bore so it probably wont be missed this year. Hopefully we get a little rain in Melbourne again this year as it made last year's race a ripper.

Gutted about this. And now the first race will be a 5am wake up too! Cheers for the link.

Its going to be another exciting season and looking forward to seeing them grid girls in China, Singapore, Korea etc!

I'm actually going to Valencia for the European GP this year...a perfect warm up to a LOS trip at the end of June!

Can you imagine F1 run democratically? It would be trying to herd cats in a catnip warehouse.

Melbourne looks like it's days are numbered with the Mayor and Local MP publicly calling for it to end. King Bernie is not happy and there are plenty of places who would gladly have it! I hope F1 doesn't leave Australia. It is almost always a good race but my favourite down under track was definately Adelade and my favourite race was I think 95. Murray Walker and Alan Jones Commentating. Schumaher and Alesi had a coming together.

Murray: "What was he (Alesi) thinking?"

AJ: "Well, I'll tell you what he was thinking... 'You're not gonna get past me, you arrogant little kraut!', that's what he was thinking!"

Alan Jones was banned from the BBC after that 1 :LMAO1:

Yes, here's hoping for another great season. Some interesting rules changes with the reintroduction of KERS, moving wingflap and Pirelli's short lasting tyres.

Valencia should be fun. I haven't attended a race in years. I keep meaning to arrange a trip to the Singapore or malaysian GP on the way to Thailand.

The Malaysian GP is really cheap compared to what we'd pay at for the British one so well worth looking into combining a trip there with Thailand. Think its usually around Song Kran time or maybe just before.

Your've got me thinking about doing the same next year!

Posted (edited)

Malaysian is on the 8th-10th April 2011. Tickets from about 1200฿. Might pop in for a look.

Thats so cheap! Maybe next year. The British one is about £200-£300 for a decent seat for just the Sunday. Valencia was quite reasonable at £120 for all 3 days.

I will be in Pattaya for the British one this year so will have to find out nearer the time a good bar to catch it in. Although we all go for the girls, I don't want to be bugged for LDs etc whilst watching the race...that can wait until after!

I used to go to Silverstone every year but it was getting too expensive. I was paying nigh on £500 just for tickets for the 3 days. Good seats on Sun and Sat but general admission only on Fri. That was without food, travel and accomodation. Probably the best part of £1000 if you count that.

Although the Malaysian Gp entry price is much less it would probably cost more in the end with flights etc but I'd be in Asia rather than Northampton and just a short hop from Thailand. If I intergrated it in with a Thai trip it would make sense. I'm useless at making long term plans but I might join you next year.

Better check what else is going on the same time as the Brit Gp and qualifying this year. So many times I've found myself a nice bar, sat myself down in front of the TV only for the bar owner to turn over to one of those stupid ball sports like football or rugby.

Is that 1200 baht? Where did you see this? I just checked the official circuit site http://www.sepangcircuit.com/eticket/f1/ and there they start from 500 RM roughly £100 or 5000 baht for a 3 day ticket. If you bought before 31st jan you got a 50% discount. I'm definately going to look out for that next year.

I can see exactly where your coming from with the prices of Silverstone. For £1000 in total you could possible get flights to KL and get the grand prix in and as you say, incorporating with a Thai trip really makes sense. And i agree...being in Asia sure beats Northampton! Although hitting Pattaya after would increase the money needed! Will definitely be keeping in mind a potential trip for this next year so will update on this forum.

Although the British GP is a good weekend, the amount stated is too expensive. Thats why Valencia was a better option for us. A week in the sun, a street circuit so something a bit different and hotel, flights and 3 day pass worked out cheaper then Silverstone so there was only one option what to do.

Cheers for the advice with regards to catching the race in July. With a interest in football there I can see why the GP got turned off so will have to investigate a certain place to find it but could go down to luck too.

I'm pencilling it in my diary.

The other complaint I have about the Brit GP is that every year there is less and less to watch and do. There used to be classic races, F3000, exhibition drives. I'll never forget the F1 Renault Espace doing laps. I've changed wheels on F1 cars. Met jackie Stewart and Johnnie Herbet. Got close enough to Schumacher to touch him (which I didn't!). Nowadays you may as well be in a different country you are so far away from the stars and there are hardly any decent team stands with stuff to do anymore.

I just read a post HERE about an R/C cars shop that has a Bar and huge screens and opens on F1 Sundays to screen the race. I'll be checking it out next time.

Top link, cheers for that. Looks like the perfect place to watch it and no chance of it getting turned off there. Can also have a break from the girls during the race too by the looks of it! I usually stay on Soi Honey Inn so it looks pretty close accoring to a map on the net so will definitely check it out and update.

Last time I went to the British GP, pretty sure there was a touring car race or something similar on first but don't remember any classic races, exhibition drives etc so your right about reducing the content. Yet the prices keep increasing! Changing wheels on the cars must have been a good experience, its cool enough just seening the cars up close. Them engineers have an awesome job travelling the world doing that!

How was your trip and did you manage to watch the races?

Yeah, it was the best one yet. Cheers for asking. I've added photos and done a report in the TR section. Personally had a better time in Patong. I see your've got a trip approaching! Are you going to split it with Phuket this time? I remember you saying you like it there too.

As for the GP, managed to watch it on Star Sports with English commentry. After your advice, I had the Nanotrax address written down and was walking up Soi Buakhao for a taxi and actually saw an English bar that had it on with the sound so slipped in there instead as was cutting it fine for the start. Would recommend it too, Nickys, just left of the Sunview.
