Laptop No Longer Starts DVDs

Compag, Windows 7, less than 6 months old.

 

I have 2 much older laptops and have never had this problem with them.

try dvd/cd lens cleaner somtimes a bit of dust on lens ! regards craig :)

If what you mean is that DVDs don't start automatically anymore and you have to start them manually, it's probably the "Autoplay" that is disabled.

To enable it, check the "Method 1" here : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/27544-autoplay-enable-disable-autorun.html

You may restart your computer for this change to take effect.

They will not start automatically or when I insert the DVD, open the player and try to do it manually.

 

Might first thought was something needed to be cleaned as well, but hell, after only 6 months?

I share your pain (Toshiba Satellite + Vista Home Premium): player will not open/read DVDs [genuine, no regional codes involved], VCDs or text/picture/data CDs. Nor can I write/copy anything to disk (thumb drives can, external hard drive can). Disks whirr, but nothing happens. Tried all the on-board diagnostics and a few off the net, but no success.

 

Toshiba service centre in BKK next week, I fear (but their service is great).
