this is a reason i have a thai bodyguard/escort/friend with me most of the time

i dont have to deal with any shit

cause if some one hits me its on for young and old and i will be one of those stupid tourists who get shot and make the news

so my mate deals with it ( not that i go looking for it )

fucking sweet as he gets me thai prices for everything too

I was in a bar once and saw some Thai men sharpening knives out the back. I shit and told the mate we are leaving. When we got out of there he asked why we left and in a very drunk voice I told him about the knife sharpening incident. He said "What in the kitchen?" Sometimes beer is good ... sometimes you need to change to Jack.

Sorry folks for the lack of detail in my OP.

I was sitting in the bar with my wife watching the band. I heard raised voices and i turned to see a middle aged farang arguing with one of the Thai men who works behind the bar. From what i could make out the problem was the size of the farangs bar bill. He claims they were charging him for drinks he had not had and were trying to rip him off. The stand off continued as both sides argued there point. Eventually the farang paid up. As he turned to leave the Thai gave him the finger and shouted ''fuck you'' . The farang signed his own death warrant by repeating the gesture. Loss of face for a Thai man can only end one way and in this case it did.

Did the farang just make the gesture? or did he shout something back?

Had he paid for ladydrinks for ladies that pay enough attention to him?

When people are drunk all kind of things happen that they usually don't intend doing.

I've probably walked past this bar in the past when I've gone shopping at the market. Won't be setting foot in this bar full stop. I don't holiday (well at least I try) in places where violence occurs.

Thats what i thought too mate until i was unfortunate enough to be in the bar the night it kicked off. As far as I'm aware the two Thai Thugs are still working there so dont rule out it happening again. Just hope its not you on the receiving end ..

I spoke to the guy who beat him up. I had to hear his version.

His version was that the customer ordered two chang beers. He payed with a 100 baht bill and later asked for his change. He told him changs are 50 baht so there were no change. Then the customer told him to fuck off, at first he thought it was some kind of joke but then the customer gave him the bird and told him to fuck off again. Then it was on.

If you see Mike the owner tell him that two of his employees savagely beating up a customer over a petty bill dispute in full view of his other customers is not good for his business. Its also not good for his business when the attack has been spoken about on quite a few Ex Pat and Thai/farang internet forums.

Unfortunately Thais don't care about scaring tourist off because Pattaya could become the most dangerous place in the world and we would still flock there for pussy.

The moral of the story yet again, is don't do anything which will cause a Thai to lose face, particularly in a crowded bar with everyone watching. It seems like the safest place in the world until you start slinging abuse, no matter how laughable.

Booze affects people in different ways. And bars make a living selling it. The thread's run for two months and no other owner's as far as I can see has suggested an alternative outcome for the drunk. He can't just be shown the door from an open bar. I wonder what might have happened if he hadn't paid?

If i was the bar owner i would be asking myself if employing staff who are prepared to viciously attack a customer in full view of other customers is good for business. The fact he had paid should have been the sign to let him walk away. I imagine that the end result would have been the same regardless whether he had paid or not. When he gave the Thai the bird he signed his own death warrant simple as that.

Knowing the mentality of some Pattaya bar owners they would probably think it was a good thing ''dont fuck with me in my bar'' and ''why should i care there will be another tourist mug along shortly anyway''

I think that the moral of the story here here is that we westerners should stick together just like the Thais do.

If they gang up on westerners they deserve to get their buts kicked back to kingdom come.

The first time I ventured to Pattaya with 2 mates we were walking along south pattaya road just past Walking Street. We all had Thai BG's with us and were just minding our own business when a Thai guy walking past said something to my mates partner. My mate asked her what was said and she responded something like "Your are a slut with a westerner". My mates wanted to go beat the living daylights out of this bloke and he would have done it if I hadn't stopped him.

Some Thai guys are jealous I suppose from the lack of attention they get from Thai girls and I suppose it is understandable if you look at it objectively. But to attack someones person like the fellow this topic is about is unacceptable.

This is one of the main reasons I now PAIG "Pay as I Go"

I will not have a bin anymore, pay for drinks as you get them, this problem cannot arise.

WOW! so many views on this, the owner should be contacted perhaps by the police this surely should have been reported? and the owner contacted about the violence from his paid staff, i pressume there were more witnesses and what of the victims?were are they and what have they to say? this will fade away sooner than you think if not pursued BUT ive seen many farang nobs wearing the flag of there country on t shirts etc as if to offend with equaly aggresive boozed up behaviour wich WILL flame thai guys & gals 6 of 1 & 1/2 dozen of the other but still sad to see alerts like this one

Nice small bar as a rule IMO.

I do not know if the Falang had previous at this bar.

Not a good move to tell any one to fuck of in Pattaya when you know Thai people can flip real quick.

I believe the bar man who is known to me must have been pushed as he is normally a quite guy.

Normally a cool bar full of old guys & a nice band on stage.

I do not like to here guys getting beat up bad but the lesson here for us guys is do not get nasty in drink & pay the bill & keep it sweet.

Walk away how ever you feel as he who walks away lives for another day right.

Always pay your bill as it will be cheaper than the Hospital visit.

There's no shortage of cowardly back-stabbers among the Thai men who hang around the tourist hubs. Viscious assults against foreigners are common and nobody gives a shit. The Thai cops will always take sides with their countrymen. The attitude is the foreinger must have done something to make the Thai lose face. In this case he gave the finger. The fact that he was returning the finger and protesting about being cheated has nothing to do with it. Being disrespectful or impolite to Thais is almost illegal in Thailand. As far as I can work out the only prevention we can take is not to talk and interact with Thai men if possible. So I'll drink in bars that are staffed by women. I don't feel comfortable with Thai men around me, it's too easy to upset their fragile little egos and have them turn violent.

So are you saying if you are being cheated with you bill you don't argue about it, just pay it for fear of being assulted?

And in this story the victim wasn't fighting in Thailand, he was banjo'd from behind. There's a difference you know.

No-one deserves to be bashed but when your in a different country you need to respect their custom. Raising his voice to a Thai was pretty dumb in the first place and accusing them of ripping you off will get you no-where. Flipping the bird after already being disrespectful was pretty dopey and smacks of someone who hasn't been to Thailand much or hasn't got enough respect for the way things are done there. If there is a dispute it needs to dealt with tactfully by saying i think there is a little mistake because i didn't drink this or that and i like this bar and i get treated well here etc go through the tab and see if you can both "discover" a little mistake. Always check your bin when a round comes etc.

It's not right that the guy got bashed but it's not right that looters in London belt up tourists and rob them. It's not right that Indians in Melbourne are treated so poorly by some sections of the community. If your white try walking the streets in downtown LA and see how you get on. No country is perfect and if you are going to enjoy a place then it's smart to take a little bit of time to understand the way things are there.

I ignore all thai males/Indian tailors and all street hawkers...when in Pattaya and it works fine for me...... I Ignore everyone except the BG's and leave it at that.

As far as giving the barman...... the bird and a FK you...that my friends is when you get cop an ass kicking. He should of paid his bill and not looked back....

"You only get two pieces of ass in your life. Your first and your last." Everything in between is extra gravy and I love extra gravy.

I tend to avoid go-go's that employ Thai male waiter, can't see the point in having them around
