Quiet hotel in Pattaya

I've been to Pattaya once before--Sep 2009. Stayed in the really nice, well-run LK Metro (edit: my mistake when I first posted. It's called the Metro Apartments) on soi LK. Everything was awesome (responsible Western owner, good staff, girl-friendly, wireless in room, unbeatable price of B600/night for week-long stay during low season)--except the noise. Things didn't quiet down till 2 AM or so.

 

I'm not into the nightlife at all. I just like to take a girl back to my place for ST in the afternoon. I like to spend the rest of my time reading, relaxing on the beach, watching movies, etc., and getting to bed early. I also like to have a quick snooze in the afternoon as well.

 

So I'm looking for a real quiet (and clean) place. Location: of course near the beach with a view would be awesome, but that's a lot to ask. As long as it's not out past 3rd road, jomtien, naklua, etc., it would be ok. Near the "action" is easier for taking girls back, so would be good. But it's easy enough to get a taxi. I don't need any amenities except a private bathroom with hot water, aircon, and free internet in the room (don't need a swimming pool, TV, large room, etc.--though a fridge would be nice). Of course a price comparable to the B600/night LK Metro would be awesome, but I'd be willing to go into B1000-1500 range for the right place.

 

I'll be in town for a week in Feb 2011.

I recommend Summer Spring Hotel.

Absolutely dead quiet. Located on Soi 1, 50m from Beach Road. If you go for rooms on a higher floor you'll have sea view. Rooftop pool with sea view. Easy to get around from/to with BahtBusses. From 1200b.

Thanks momomo both for the recommendation and the links to other posts about the place on the forum. The Summer Spring Sounds EXACTLY like what I'm looking for. If I end up getting a reservation and staying there, I'll definitely give back to the board by giving the place a review. If they're full or something I'll report on where I did end up. There is the Jomtien boathouse at roughly 1000 a night.

LK Metropole has a Western owner ? I didn't know that. I always assumed that the owners are Chinese/Thai. The name "Leng Kee" is Chinese for certain.

August Suites is a little on the high side as per the budget you have. But it fits your bill. I always stay there and I have similar habits to you, early riser, early to bed, reading ..etc. There are a couple of nice places to eat around, some nice massage places, free wifi ...etc.

Thanks, Great Gonzo, for more info. You're right. Jomtien isn't that far away from things and I shouldn't so hastily strike it from the list--especially with the recommendation of the Jomtien Boathouse. Sounds like another place that's right up my alley.

Hi M Tiber. My mistake on the name of the place I stayed. It was indeed on Soi LK Metro, but it was not the LK Metropole. It was called the Metro Apartments. Looks like my brain has reached the point where it can't even remember back a year and a half. I think I do remember having a good time in Pattaya, though...

Somebody else on the thread mentioned by momomo (http://www.pattaya-a...__1#entry880604) talked about liking August Suites as well--and nothing but rave reviews on Trip Advisor, etc. The budget is a little higher than my usual. But who knows? There's always a first time for everything. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have never stayed at August suites or Summer Spring but I visited them and would stay at both if my usual hotels weren't available.

Given the budget, Summer Spring would be the right choice but if budget could be stretched, August suite is really better and closer to everything.

my last trip i stayed on soi buckow and was surpised at how loud the street sounds were until very late.

 

one thing to also look for. i was in a quiet location but the air con was so loud, the bg i was with thought that it was a thunderstorm outside because of the sounds coming from it, lol

Thanks for the tip about the aircon. I'll definitely remember to check the a/c out as part of my initial room check. And I can certainly relate to the street noise in the soi Buakhao area. To be fair to the otherwise really great Metro Apartments, I should have mentioned that my room was not only on the street side of Soi LK but also directly above the bar. There are rooms on higher floors and towards the back as well, which I'm sure were quieter, though I doubt could be described by the word tranquil. For people who are out and about late, though, it's a great place to stay--especially on a budget.

The Royal Palace Twin... set back from 2nd Road... opposite Royal Garden is quiet and good value... about B1200 if you join the members club...

If this reply it's too late, I found Soi 13 to be about the quietest Soi that was close to the beach. There weren't any bars on the Soi, therefore no music blarring into the night. Also a range of hotels with different price ranges.

Although you might want to check whether there is any construction going on either that Soi or the ones that it backs onto.

Try Sandy Springs Hotel on Soi 13. It is usually very quiet at night since it's not a bar area, but it is close to all the action. You 100 baht per night off if you join the club.

i stayed on soi diana..evergreen hotel...in the middle of it all but very quiet..+new hotel so the air con is quiet

Thanks for the great advice everyone. I just got back from a short week in Pattaya. I posted a report at http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/forum/topic/73278-trip-report-march-2011/. I ended up staying at the Summer Spring Hotel, and it was great. Exactly what the doctor ordered. I talked about it in the trip report, but I'll paste the part of the trip report about the Summer Spring here:

 

It was exactly what I wanted—quiet. It was also clean and the staff were professional and helpful. The rooms with views (floors 5-7) are either B1590 or B1690, so it was a little higher than I’d originally wanted, but well worth it. Not all rooms on floors 5-7 have views, though, so make sure to request one facing the water if you want a room with a view. Have a look at the thread for other good sounding hotel recommendations.

 

The only real negative about the Summer Spring was the internet. Since I’m not a beach/nightlife person, I spent a lot of time on the balcony with my computer. You can only get 5 hours of internet at a time, by having the bell boy bring a user name and password up to your room or getting a user name/password from the front desk. When that runs out, you have to sign up for more (and sign in to the internet again and all that). Signing in can take a couple of tries, too. The connection is a bit shoddy as well. But I suspect most people don’t use the internet as much as I do, so that definitely shouldn’t deter anyone from staying there. And the internet was free, too, when I was there. I think you used to have to pay…

 

The only other slight problem was that a good portion of the clientele consists of “law-abiding” families. I just couldn’t bring myself to bring girls back with me with all the families there, so I just made the nightly walk down to soi 6.

Anybody else noticed that the smallest room is categorized on the hotel's official website as "STD/Spring Room"???

Btw, update: the Spring Hotel group seem to just have upped the prices for all their hotels, so the Summer Spring is now from B1500.- (previously 1200).

I have had both city and pool view rooms at August Suites and neither have had any noise from outside.
