takes about 11 hours i wouldnt do it myself, have a shop around and get a cheap internal flight Phuket to uttapow (dont know spelling) takes 1 hour available for about 2100 on a good day, last bus i got cost 800 that was 4 years ago

Done it once from Bangkok to Phuket NEVER AGAIN 18 hours, 20 stops and about 1/3 the price of a cheap flight which takes around an hour. Unless you are really trying to save every baht dont bother, the way i look at it thats a whole day wasted and a saving of £20- £30.

I reckon you should fly. I booked online a one way flight from Patts to Phuket for 2800bt (about $95) using Bangkok Airlines.

And that's from Utapao Airport which is a lot closer than Bangkok airport with less traffic.I believe it's about 35km away.

 

For the time saved by going by air as well as the comfort factor, the extra premium you pay than going by bus is a bargain IMHO.
