Airline Delay / Cancellation - your rights

This article on your refund/compensation rights appeared in the UK Sunday Times this week. I can’t access the text of the article as its behind the ST firewall but have posted a scanned copy below.

 

For those travelling from UK/Europe and worried about cancelled/delayed flights due to snow, volcanos, strikes, leaves on the Runway etc have a read. The main points are in the last 3 sections starting ‘Protection within the European Union’

 

Its worth knowing about this as it might get you a better reschedule of your flight or more cash / compensation when you complain. The advice I’ve heard of elsewhere is to be assertive of your rights immediately there is a problem, rather than waiting as by then it may be too late to get what you want.

 

Interestingly it appears your rights are a lot better if you fly an EU airline, even if the journey doesn’t start in the EU – well that’s my reading of it.

 

I’m sure there will be some lawyers or aviation experts on the board who can add anything missing or incorrect.
