I just read an article published by the The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates 40% of sex workers in Thailand's Chiang Mai district are HIV positive.

I understand too well that if you have unprotected sex in Thailand you are very likely to pick up some kind of infection, but this has shocked me, two out of 5 people!

I just didn't realise that Chiang Mai had such a high percentage of HIV positive cases.

Wonder what the percentage is for Pattaya? Anyone seen any stats?

And guys talk about shagging bearback!

Is this an article you would like to share with the rest of PA world?

A link or maybe a title/author of this article would be appreciated.

Hi, if you could point us in the direction of the article people may be able to comment further. For example the figures below which are estimated come from My link

The current situation

Thailand Statistics

Estimated total population, 2010

67,089,500

Estimated number of people living with HIV, end 2009 530,000

Adults (15+) 520,000

Women (15+) 210,000

Estimated adult (15-49) HIV prevalence 1.3%

Estimated number of AIDS deaths in 2009 28,000

The majority of Thailand’s HIV infections occur through heterosexual sex.

HIV prevalence among pregnant women, which reached a peak of 3.4% in 1992, had fallen to under 1% by 2009.33

In your first post you write that you have just read an article by WHO- where is it?

Because when I go to the page you have linked to the WHO-link/reference doesn't work.
