Police Crackdown Clears the Streets

Recommended Posts

Posted

Thirty tourist police officers recently cleaned up the streets of Pattaya arresting street beggars and unpleasant street workers. The purpose of the arrests was to make sure that tourists in Pattaya are not hassled or disturbed while walking around as well as to increase safety along the sidewalks.

Police officers arrested 47 people along Pattaya Beach Road starting from North Pattaya all the way down to Walking Street and along the streets off Pattaya Second Road. The 47 people consisted of 15 homeless people, 30 street sellers that have been reported to irritate tourists, one person with a wild animal (snake) for foreigners to take pictures with and one person selling inappropriate sexual equipment.

The arrested people were all taken to the police station where they were lectured and charged.

I am sure they are all back on the streets doing exactly the same already. BTW what is the definition of 'unpleasant street workers'?...lol

I wonder if they are referring to LadyBoys or mechanical devices ??

I always buy chewing gum and leave the change from the tiny lady that sits on the sidewalk selling it instead of begging and I do not chew gum.

Coins in my pocket go to the guys with no arms and legs.

The so called beggars do not bother me at all, at least they are out there doing something.

It is in fact the suit sellers that can be a pain.

The other problem one's are trying to sell tattoo art and other totally useless crap on the beach when you are trying to just relax.

Always remember to give your Thai girl your donation to hand to them as this gives you BIG POINTS in their eyes.

"where they were lectured"... LOL!!!

Too Funny!!

Cheers...

Watch out for the snake handlers! I met an Aussie who let the guy put the snake on him, he said the guy's hands were all over him and in the process he was pick pocketed.

I have no problem with Beggars and disabled people looking to make a few baht off me now and then. If they are actively doing something, or selling something, I'll often bite. Sometimes, if they don't hassle me, I'll wait until they are past and then get my GF to give them 20 baht or so.

It's the ones that just walk up to you while you're having a nice meal and give you the sorrowful look and the big eyes with the hand out that piss me off.

Try to sell me a pencil or something wouldja? I actually did something for my $$$, and you can try too.

Last trip all those sellers of the same old crap were pissing me off so badly that I'm seriously thinking of getting a T-shirt or cardboard sign that says NO in Thai and English. I timed it one evening, and for a couple hours there was no more than a minute and a half between touts. I couldn't finish a sentence, or a beer.

My travel pal and I actually did make the signs that said NO THANK YOU in both Thai and in English. They worked so well for us we had a couple hundred made up but it was hard to sell them besides being illegal for us to do it as Foreigners. So we tried to get Thai people to sell them for us and all refused. They were great worked as a fan and flyswatter too.
