Quick note on changing flights/dates

just my experience in case it might come handy to someone.

I bought my Emirates return ticket on ebookers a couple months in advance for a two-week trip. Just a week before my departure something came up which ideally would have had me returning two days earlier. It was not a must but it would have been great if I could make it and I kinda fancied it, too (don't ask).

 

So I called ebookers to see what the options were. The fees are 25 pounds for ebookers plus what the airline might charge plus any additional money for higher booking class if applicable.

The phone agent had a look and first quoted me their fee plus 110 quid for Emirates. She then had a second look to confirm and said actually the earlier date would just be possible if I changed either the outward jurney as well or went to a much higher booking class, a total minimum of then 265 pounds!

Ok, no way in hell, I'm on a budget.

 

Arriving at Swampy I had a bit of time to kill and the thought came up again. So I got to the Emirates info desk and asked whether I could change my flight, two days earlier. A quick look and yes sir, no pompem, we have seats. Costs? 75 pounds.

Not bad at all but I wanted to think it through. She gave me a phone number and off I went.

 

While in Patts I received some emails and finally decided to leave early. So I called the Emirates number at the airport. The lady spoke English very well and I got my flight changed, received the confirmation email 5 min later and paid the 75 punds just before checking in at the information stand (CC cards, debit cards or cash of any currency accepted).

 

So if you think of all the hassle and fees you might get at the internbet travel agents, just do it in-country. Only downside is that you can't do online check-in before the new flight since you first have to pay the charge. But you can make your normal seat reservations on the Emirates website as normal.

Thanks for the info. The budget airlines are a real pain in the ass to change flights.

I flew with Eva airways recently.

 

I was enjoying my 3 week Holiday so much, i thought lets change my flight to give me another 3 more days in Pattaya.

 

So i first ring Flight centre, which was the company i booked my flights with.

 

I ask is it possible to change the date on my return flight back to heathrow?

Their quick answer was NO, the ticket was not transferable??

 

So then i decided to call Eva Airways Bangkok centre to ask......

 

Well guess what??...

 

The Lady on the phone who speaks great english replies...

No problem sir, when would you like to Fly back we can do that for you!

Now i think how much is this gonna cost me????

£0

 

No charge sir, and we have reserved your seat for your return Journey!!

 

Dont you just love EVA AIRWAYS!!

transferable means changing the name one the ticket not changing the dates. The travel agent was just feeding you some shit if she said this.

I have had similar experiences over the year, latest last weekend where flying home with Thai/SAS and wanted a later departure on one of the leg. Mailed the travel agency but for reason unexplained they where denied (by SAS)to book the flight I wanted. Went online and chatted with an agent from SAS which didn't have the authority to book

Spent a small fortune on a long distance to SAS booking just to be told ticket booked thru travel agencies most be change by agency !!!

Went to the airport and before checking with Thai I adressed the supervisor? and ask if a change was possible. Within a few minute he had made a call to checked condition of fare, changed reservation and escorted my to business class check in. Excellent service and assistance by Thai

The standard fare for changes are $100 or 3200 baht.

It doesen't matter if you have a non-changeble ticket you can always make changes if you cough up some lube!

A excellent travel agent in Patts is Goodmans two doors up from Devils Den on LK Metro.

They actually knows the word service!

There is not a standard fare for changing tickets. Some can be changed for free, others can't be changed at all it depends on the airline and booking class of the ticket mate.

I stand corrected Mike. Of course some of the the booking classes are changeable for free and some airlines are more generous with their regulations but if you buy the cheapest tickets availible in class Y (as I does most of the times) many airlines charge you $100 for any changes in the ticket.

Y class is the full fare and most expensive economy class ticket and can always be changed without fee if available seats on economy.

 

* Full fare: Y, B

* Standard fare: M, H

* Special or discount fares: G, K, L, N, O, Q, S, T, U, V, W, X

 

Not sure when a ticket cann't be change against a fee but believe most airlines has class H or G as the limit
