I'd ring Kessaya first to check if he has anything.

I was on the back of a motorbike taxi for the best part of 40mins trying to find the place, then I call for directions - I'm told he has no bikes left

Hard to find way back past 3rd rd somewhere.

Go to Escape rentals on Soi Diana opposite LK Metro

Mai Pang have been running for years and reliable with quality Bikes and run by an English guy why know's the business, I would not have them at Canterbury Tales Cafe otherwise.

Do they have insurance? What happens if the bike gets stolen? Or I get in an accident and damage the bike?

All bikes should have compulsory insurance, this will pay out for injuries or death to third parties. You will not not be covered for accident damage or theft.
