How much eyeglasses cost in Pattaya.

Single vision and progressive lenses price.

Pattaya holiday 9.2.2012-8.3.2012

At Hoo waen spectacle shop inside Lotus on Sukhumwit you can get a cheap pair with lenses from around 1000 B and up made in 1 hour. But count on at least 2000 B for a pair you like.

Progressive will be more expensive and will probably take more than 1 week.

Last time I was there I had them change my lenses for 300 B all inclusive. These were of the cheapest kind of plastic lenses but they work fine.

I purchased my new glasses in one of the optician shops in the Central Festival in Pattaya. I am shortsighted and the opticians in the

shop took a test with me to see if my sight has declined since I got my last glasses. That was the case and and he took

the time to find out what kind of glasses would match to my new eyesight. The test and to choose my new frame took about 30 minutes

and on the next day I could pick up my new anti-glare glasses. The costs including the new frame were about 4.500 baht.

I was very satisfied with the service and so I bought a new pair of sunglasses as well. Cost over all for the glasses and sunglasses

were 9.000 baht. This price is utterly unbeatable in my homecountry. But of course the price depends on what kind of brand name

you are looking for in frames and glasses. The shops in Pattaya have a huge variety of brand to choose from.

My advice for you is DON'T accept the first price that you get from the optician - you can negotiate what you are willing to pay. I'm still

happy with the quality of my glasses and I would do it again.

As someone who has just finished a 1 year relationship with the manager of one of the many Top Charoen shops in Pattaya I can guarantee that you can get cheaper glasses here than in Europe. The same as anything in Thailand never accept their first offer as I have seen my ex-girlfriend drop up to 30% and still make a profit.

However remember that everything is about money and they will try to get you to buy designer frames or expensive named lens material (Carl Zeiss etc). It's up to you what you choose but also remember that the more you pay generally the better the quality and the longer they will last.

One more thing to remember is that you generally get no guarantees from the shops. If your glasses break the shop will try to help you but you still may have to pay for the fix regardless of whether you think it's a material/manufacturing fault.

If you need any help I still know the managers of several shops and also the staff at the Top Charoen laser eye surgery place in Bangkok (had mine done for £1100 about 2 months ago) and can get you more discounts.

It's my intention during my upcoming trip to mix in a fair bit of "medical tourism" Get the teeth sorted ( a couple of loose fillings need replacing) and buy new specs. My present ones cost the earth here in UK - complex prescription, varifocals, light reactive and superthin lenses. So I am hoping I can save a couple of Baht buying there. Will have an eyetest here and take the prescription.

Now if I use GF shopping logic on this. If I get them at say half UK price and buy a standardish sort of pair for 5000B that's a 5000B saving, but If I go for a fancy designer pair at twice the price I'd save 10000B giving me more for the prime purpose in visiting LOS...

I bought a frame of what I was told thaitanium from Top Charoen and paid 5000 bath for the frames and another 1-2000 for the lenses. About a month later I fall asleep with the glasses on and wake up with a broken frame. I go back to Top Charoen and ask if they can be fixed (no), They try to sell me another frame for 5000bath, I was not happy about spending another 5000 so I was slow to say yes. The girl drops the price to 3000, I'm still slow to say yes, she drops it to 1500, I say what if I go buy some cheap 100 bath frames from the open market and they put the lenses in, she says special price 1000 baht and I say ok. So it got me thinking they must be making a HUGE profit on selling frames for 5000.

Next time you need frames, don't be shy about trying to get them to lower the price if they are asking ~5000.
