The ban has been announced by the National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Department on Monday.

Sunant Arunnopparat, the department chief, said the ban on alcoholic drinks is intended to prevent tourists from making loud noises to annoy other campers and wild animals. It is also part of safety measures for park visitors.

Violators of the ban are liable to up to one month in jail and a fine of not more than 1,000 baht or both."

If this law will be enforced against Thai tourists, then I fear that most of the 102 national parks will be deserted during the next public holidays.

I don't know why they bother passing such laws. It will be ignored both by visitors to the parks and those responsible for enforcing it.....lol

It will probably be like the infamous Bangkok Littering Law and farangs tossing cigarettes; rarely but selectively enforced to bring a lot of quick baht.

Wonder if vendors in the park will stop selling beer?
