Billabong Hotel has free internet. March/April rooms between 650 and 850 per night. Discount for monthly stay. Don't know how good the Wifi is as I have never stayed there. Greig the owner is a BM here. I wrote to him and got a speedy reply. I've just booked the Billabong for my next trip.

You can check out the hotel on the link above. There are also some Billabong threads in the Hotels section of the forum. I read through a lot of it. Could not find a single complaint. Greig (the owner)also replied to the posts. I think you also get a discount on drinks at the bar if you stay there.

BTW though it may sound like it, I have no connection to the Billabong. Its just that I was impressed by the BM's posts, website, price and Greig's speedy response to my queries.

You can stay at the R-Con for far less than 1000 bht a day! Monthly Mar/Apr is 13000 bht +electric or 700 bht daily rate (all in)! 7 floors with an elevator and good wifi particulary in the Soi Buakcaou facing rooms.Rooms are large at 50/55 sq metres but the toilet/shower is small. They charge 1200 bht MONTHLY for Wifi but still well under your stated budget with the added advantage of having bhat bus pass by your doorstep every 20 seconds going both ways! :GoldenSmile1: :GoldenSmile1: :GoldenSmile1:

Err, I hate to sound like a salesman, but check out Billabong's site. I think there are quite a few in LK Metro.

My cheap and cheerful guest house has fast free wifi ("N" router) and cable TV both in the room for 500B/day.

I'm a bit amazed that wifi isn't provided for free in the room everywhere as I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere that didn't have it. It's as vital as hot water and aircon these days.

Rockhouse, Mai Lu Si, Billabong, Golf Club, Irish Rovers... i think almost every guesthouse on the street.

I don't think I care to give the name as it may suddenly get full!

Suffice it to say that it is within 5 minutes walk of Central Festival, on a quiet Soi and all the other places around seem to have in-room wifi for about the same price so I dont think there is anything special about it in that respect.

Farang-owned places seem to me to be somewhat more expensive and, above all, often situated near/over a bar which for me is a total no-no. I'm a sad old sod who hates parties and I dont want to hear music/screaming/noise at any time of the day or night.

My vote for a 600 - 800 room with free Wi-Fi that is really fast ( I know, stay there almost 2 months) is Fawlty Towers. I'm not sure what their availability is now. My room was nice, really clean, I mean very clean, and the Net was great. I made more money day trading from FT than almost since.

Any way, check it out if you need a good room, there are posts all over here about FT.

Free and working wifi should be the norm by now in any place no matter how much you pay. If they can not provide that, what else could be wrong in there?

I shower only me

The streets don't change but maybe the names

Thanks for your help and assistance, I'm certain the B/M's feel grateful as well! Isn't it "Nice-to-be-Nice"? Why did you bother to post if you have no intention of naming what sounds like a viable option? Could it be because in your OWN words you are a "Sad old Sod"! Thanks again,NOT! :c45ec00b: :c45ec00b: :c45ec00b:

My whole point was that there are loads of fairly cheap places near mine (and further away) that offer free wifi in the room. There is nothing special or unusual about it. Various other posters pointed out the same thing.

If you dont find that helpful then that's too bad. Maybe you should buy a guide book.

I prefer not to name the place because I know that if I do it will immediately be deluged with people who dont have the wit or energy to walk into hotels and ask a few questions, and who probably sit around all day looking into the top of a beer bottle wondering where the next BJ is coming from, and then have a screaming row at 2am with the person who gave it to them. I dont think I want to be surrounded by people like that.

Merry Christmas

Stayed at the Billabong last week and the wifi was great for thailand. As i remember about 700 down and 150 upload kbit/s, was able to run youtube playlists and watch movies.
