Opening a Bank Account

As a regular visitor I have been thinking about opening a Bank account in Thailand and will probably bring enough money with me to get one opened and then do a monthly transfer from UK. Is it fairly easy to open one even though I am a non resident ?

Any advice welcome

Very easy. I opened mine at the Kasikorn bank on the 4th floor of Central Festival. All you need is your passport and the address of the hotel where you are staying.

Yes, it is easy, I also used the 'Green K' Kasikorn Bank,

It easy as Shivers says - take in money, passport and one of the little address cards from the front desk of your hotel.

Opening the account is free but the ATM card will cost you a few hundred baht but that is essential as there are hundreds of their ATM points around Pattaya,

You will also get a SIM card with a Thai phone number which is used to access/validate your on-line account,

When I can I send money from England into the account by bank transfer so that it is there waiting for me on my next trip,

Yep. Its that easy to open an account.... BUT there is no name on the ATM card you will receive AND its for VISA use (without a pincode) too.... so better not loose it or they bye a nice LCD TV and a pig to roast at the party with your card.... not to much money on the account is a solution....

you can also use it for internet banking and top up your prepaid phonecard with it aswell.... :-)

Hi thanks for the reply, you say when you get your card there is no name on it, but surely you still have your pin number to stop people accessing it ?

No it doesn't have your name printed on the front, but you sign it on the back and it has the normal pin code access for the ATM machines, and they prepare it for you while you wait as you open the account,

Then a nice little asistant goes out of the bank with you to the cashpoint outside and helps you get going, you click on ENGLISH and all the instructions are there for you,

Any credit card is open to abuse, but so far I have had no problems with anyone empying my K bank account (except of course my Thai girlfriend - and she does that on a regular basis 5555)

In August 2008 I opened a bank account at the Siam Commerical Ban k branch on the beach road close to WS. When I showed the bank employee my passport which happened to be a new one at first he wasnt going to allow me to open a bank account because I only had a tourist visa stamp in my passport. With the help of my thai girlfriend I was able to convince him that I was a very regular visitor to Thailand. So the bank employee changed his mind and I was able to open an account. I was given a ATM card and a pay in book. I was able to sort out a pin number whilst I was in the bank's branch.

Back in England I was easily able to set up online banking. I am flying out to Thailand last week so I recently transferred my holiday spending money into my Thai bank account and it only took 3 working days to get to the thai account. So when I am in Pattaya I'll be able to go to the SCB ATM machines and withdraw my holiday money free of charge.

    • For those that don't know, I did Friday meetings before many years ago,  I feel like we are missing a regular meeting for members,  I am aware guys meet at PA affiliated bars. But I want to start meeting people again, I'm inviting the guys following my YouTube also.

The meetings is a chance to get to meet each other,  I plan to be at every meeting, I also have Dean from Dive bar that has offered to help out with a crawl after.
The meetings will be  Monday  6 pm - 8 pm each week.  (The improvised bar crawl will commence at 8 p.m.  Dean will make his own plans for that.)

Due to low numbers of people in town, I will start the meetings in our bars to help our girls and managers, please check back often incase things are changed.  I will be sharing the love around town later, but Soi 6 is first on my list (including bars that are friendly competition)
If bar owners want us to have a meeting at their bar,  they need to have a minimum of 10 girls.  I'm not dragging people to empty bars for favours.
Please help us invite other members, it takes a while to get momentum.
Monday 6 pm - 8pm  (then bar crawl after)

2nd May - (next bar we have open)
      9th May - Cooters bar soi 6
16th May - Hot shots bar Soi 6
23rd May - (next bar we have open)
      30th of May - Lust soi 6
      6th of June - Illuzion

I look forward to meeting people again.
