Maklom in Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to LOS for the first time in February to study the game maklom (Thai name), better known to Westerners as "go", at a school in Chiang Mai. Of course, I'll be visiting Pattaya whenever I get the chance and I was wondering if there is any place where people play, casually or otherwise, in Patts. (My guess is that I won't spend EVERY hour each day in a bar or hotel room)

it is not popular in Thailand. Might be played in Chinatown in Bangkok but not seen it much anywhere else. You should have went to Japan to learn it

Thailand has consistently had the 4th strongest group of professional players in the world (after China, Korea, and Japan). There's a dedicated school in Chiang Mai that I'll be attending. Yes, I could have gone to Japan, which may have been an equally rewarding trip culturally, but I wouldn't have been able to afford a 6 month trip if I had. I have different reasons for avoiding China and Korea.

I didn't really expect there to be a big go/maklom community outside of Bangkok or Chiang Mai, but you never know where groups may pop up.

Lots of things, most of which just boil down to me not liking how their government operates.
