Buying a mobile phone in LOS

I am just wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a fake/copy mobile from in Pattaya, I used to know one a couple of years back but is now closed down, as I am looking to buy a blackberry and a i phone. So any help I would be greatful.

I drove by one day with baht bus and if I do come back to Pattaya in Jan 2011, I'll most probably go here to buy a phone and a SIM card.

 

Actually I don't need a fancy smart phone - just a simple mobile so I can send and receive SMS and maybe occasional phone call to potential TG to have fun with for few hours or maybe to ask some BM to join me for a beer or few rounds of pool.

 

How much do you think such average mobile would cost and how much for a prepaid SIM card or some monthly subscription?

 

If such phone would also work in EU or in most countries of the world, so much better.

Don't know about Pattaya. But in Bkk, you can find tons of such phones at MBK.

 

Just be more choosey when you buy or you could end up with Blueberry (Blackberry copy) or Nokio (Nokia copy). However, they do work well.

Benchmark price for new simple Nokia is no more than 1000. you can get one for less if you are happy with secondhand, they are perfectly OK. Tukcom, 1 floor up, is best place as mentioned by others.

All are unlocked.

 

I prefer non smart phones/iphones on trip as if you are not careful data charges and incoming push stuff which can be tricky to turn off will drain your local sim of cash faster than a TG!

 

There are also plenty of 2 sim phones available for 1500 up. This means you can put in your home sim and a local sim into one phone to save carrying around 2 phones if you need access to your home phone. They work really well, it just rings whichever sim is called. you can chose which outgoing sim to use etc.

They are mostly china made copies but are usually OK if you buy from Tukcom centre. Most of stalls in there are OK and will swop it/repair it if you hit a problem.

 

You can get chinese copy iphones which are often just phones, ie no data, apps etc, even though they have lots of nice apple style menus. typically 2000b and up. Really nice copies are quite expensive and IMO not worth it. 2 sim also available on these. nice toy to show off when you return home if thats your thing.

 

Biggest problem in Tukcom is making a choice there are 1000's to chose from!!

Don't know if you care for warranty but if you buy a phone in Thailand the warranty isn't legal in Europe anymore. I experienced this a few years back with a Nokia that i buy new in Khorat and wanted to repair in Belgium after a few months. They explicit said me warranty for phone bought in Asia only warranty in Asia not in Europe! And it was for sure a production error as many Nokia's of the same type had this problem also in Belgium.

On the subject of repairs, I take any family cell phones that have gone wrong to Tukcom for repair. its way cheaper than UK, you get a free quote first so if you don't like price can walk away. Had screens, charging problems etc fixed. These guys are brilliant.
