I failed with 17 correct (need 18 to pass).

But I think that's pretty good, considering I'm an American.

I failed on my first attempt(71%) and would have been turfed out of my own country but ( passed on the 2nd attempt (88%) but wouldn't have been given the chance of taking a 2nd test so I would have been detained handcuffed, then chucked onto a plane to some 3rd world country

One of my UK baised Thai friend's took and passed the test (she from a well off Thai family and has lived in the UK under various types of visa's for about 7 years). She speaks very good English.

 

She told me the offical book to study for the test was rubbish and it was better to use one one the guides to passing the test (if it helps anyone who's wife etc is trying to pass)

 

She told me the biggest problem was understanding the poor English of the Indian staff in the test centre, and when she finished an Indian woman told her 'congratulations you have passed' to which she replied 'thanks, have you?'

lol i failed as well! questions seem to be narrowly aimed within the tiny scope of what a civil servant might know (lots of govermentment facts and figures on immigration atc.)

Half the questions are totaly irrelevant and you can see the PC brigadge have had their input.

The suffrigette movement, trade unions, the EU all gets a mention.

 

Not a single questions on British history.

The magna carta, Kings, famous battles, Celts/Saxons/Angles/Vikings/Roman and Normans, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the industrial revolution, adam smiths wealth of nations, the abolition of slavery, the british empire, the consitutional monachy, England/Wales/Scotland and Northern Ireland, Nelson and trafalgar, battle of Britian, the few we owe so much to and will never forget....

 

Apparently we don't need to know any of that stuff to be british...

But the suffrigette movement can't be forgotten, and its essentail they know the right place to enquire about maternity/paternity leave and if mobile phones need insureance!

 

It makes me want to weep sometimes

Despite being from UK - Fail 74%. Some tough questions there for foreigners. I don't see how they would know, or even need to know some of them

I am Norwegian so I did not expect to pass anyway, failed with 54%.

I can happily scratch UK off my list of countries to retire in, getting closer and closer to only having one option left on my list.

Failed at 58%, and again at 71%. Just as well they introduced the Citizenship Test here in Australia 20 years after I arrived from England, or they'd have sent me back to the UK on the next flight.....

One of their answers is actually wrong. Does council tax depend upon the number of people living in the property. They say no, but actually it does, single occupancy properties are 25% cheaper. Also another one, what is the normal voltage in sockets, they offer 220 or 240, it is actually 230. And as for % of pop living in Scotland, %of ethnic minorities, what year women got right to divorce, and other irrelevant historical junk what has that got to do with anything, surely it ia about being able to live in UK now. I bet 90% of the UK population wouldn't know some of the answers...

Says in the small print that anyone scoring over 90% isn't allowed to leave.

 

 

I got 63% so I'll stay here.
