I was on a contract installing 3 large (1ton) pumps at a clean water treatment plant, these were to feed about twenty huge sand upflow filters that I remember had a Dirty Backwash system on them.

The water pumped up to into the top of these filters from the Inlet chamber looked potable or very clear, the Backwash was pumped out of the filters via a smaller supernatant pipe into a lagoon.

This lagoon smelt utterly foul with a thick black Crust on it (just like yesterday's Som-Tam) This Backwash was in fact brown & had lots of tiny worms in it. Is what's in that bottle the same sort of stuff?

That was in the UK - so what horrors me thinks may be lurking in the water supply of LoS?

5 years of brushing my teeth with tap water with no trouble... doesn't smell or taste bad.

my buddy had a good point about using tap water for brushing your teeth... the ultra small doses help you build up a bit of an immunity so should you drink/get served tap water its not a total shock to your system...

another buddy came out for a visit and after 23 hours of travel he wanted a nice long shower before we hit the town. he gets out of the shower and says "so i am guessing its ok to drink the tap water here?" to which i replied "hell no"... with a somewhat worried look on his face he says "fuck... i just drank about a gallon of shower water". he didnt get sick but i have a feeling its because we drank enough booze to kill a buffalo...

I've always used tap water for brushing, although I sometimes hesitate to wash my ears out in the shower, having caught an ear infection during Songkran. I surmise that you have to ingest / absorb a significant amount of water for any infection to take hold.

My mate once took his GF on a sailing trip in the North Sea. She was horrified when dipped a bucket in the ocean & then boiled some spuds in it; check for fish then job's a good 'un was his philosophy. Maybe it's not a good idea for pasta or rice, which absorb a large amount of water during cooking.

I worry more about the bum gun, as suppositories take advantage of the rapid absorption into the bloodstream of substances directly introduced into the gut!

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

It takes fuck all for Giardia or Cryptosporidium for u to get infected.

One octcyst is all it takes and this then hatches in your gut releasing the parasites.

Back in the 80's in a city in Canada over 300 people died due to Crypto in the water.:o

A couple of years ago back in Oz there was an outbreak in swimming pools of Crypto and all the council pools needed to be shut down.

So even brushing your teeth with unclean water is dangerous.:NoNo3:

Stick to bottled water and beer! :GiveBeer1:

Always brush my teeth with tap water. No problem. Do I some times get the poo poos, of cause. Is it down to "tap water" I doubt it or I would have them all the time. All this paranoia is a load of bollocks... Anyone been in Pattaya April 19th?

Have a great time in Pattaya and stop worrying about what may or may not happen!

There are some places in the world that even I would not trust the tap water to brush teeth with.

But for tourist areas of Thailand like Pattaya, Bangkok, etc., I never had an issue with using tap water out of hotel to brush my teeth with. I will concede that. Though I believe some hotels don't really use treated water, most of them maybe do.

I stayed in a condo in Jomtiem last trip. One day as my teerak was doing the dish's after breakfast, all of a sudden, no water.

I called down to the rental office they said "oops will call for water delivery" Saw a water truck come 3 times over the course of about a hour. So not hooked up to "city" water.

When the water did come back on it was a really nasty brown color, but cleared up pretty quick.

Also the ice question, most places have it delivered on a daily system. LOL shit you notice when you stay here for a month at a time. Many a day having the usual 2 in the afternoon meet up at Love Joy's the ice truck would deliver the days ice.

Only reason we met there was 40b San Mig Light all day :)

The tap water is not good for us westerners.

Drink a cupfull and you'll probably spend 3 or 4 days locked in your room shitting brown water and feeling sorry for yourself.

Avoid brushing your teeth with it, just to be safe.

I've used it a few times when I was out of bottled water and a to lazy to get more and it did no harm. But whats the sense in risking precious days of your holiday?

Just keep your fridge well stocked with bottled water. Most hotels give you two free bottles every day for this reason.

The sea water in the bay is dirty. Even some of the Thais are very carefull about it.

It ain't going to kill you if you touch it, but cop a mouthfull and you'll know about it the next day.

Just be sensible and you'll be fine.

For the benefit of you Tourists that don't live here and almost never get further from the beach than 3rd Rd, other than to go to and from the Airport, out along Highway 3240 (Soi Crocodile Farm) just before you reach Lake Mabrachan, there is a very large Water Treatment Plant, also as you head back towards Bangkok on Highway 7, a few Kms after the highway 36 intersection on the Right, you will see anther Water Treatment Plant and a large Water tower under construction.

Water Treatment is taken fairly seriously in this town, poisoning 10's of thousands of tourists with town water is not in Pattaya cities best interests, so stop shitting your pants (so to speak) take reasonable precautions, IE: drink the bottled stuff, but don't be overly concerned about brushing your teeth with it.

As with any City, the whole process can turn to shit, chances are, that the probability in this Town is slightly higher, but as I always say, if you worry about something long enough, it will get you in the end.

If you were to live out in the Burbs like I do, then you might have something to worry about.

Out here on the Darkside, there are a few largish ponds, that I have seen them pumping water from, for delivery to households that have no Town Water supply, now that shit I wouldn't drink in a fit.

Like I said, Chill Out and take reasonable precautions, but leave your paranoia at home.

As I stated earlier in this thread I have suffered in the past from Giardia and believe me that is no fun and I think, but I'm not sure, that I have some kind of lasting hang over from it, but I have yet to have anything like a dose of that from the water here.

in general i agree with you, but it is NOT very uncommon , that suddenly water supply stops in big condo even because the supply line is breaking or cut because road works (and you now how quick Pattaya repairs his roads or damages), and then you see those supply wagons come to fill the supply thanks from the condos .... and that happens for the moment in my condo building , and is not located across Sukhumvit Darkside...; but does not matter even now and past time i paste with this water with NO problems , and even use the drinking water machines still , as they are then ALSO filled with the supply water , never being sick or other problem :Chokdee:

Unlike most other peanut animated adaptation, the film is one of the few adults, particularly prominent on the screen, said part, without the use of the signature trombone voice effects. The group first arrived in London to the center of tourism, but Snoopy and Woodstock play some tennis at Wimbledon. When he found himself lost, Snoopy attacked and get thrown out.

This is like a tennis match, every post has an opposing opinion. But I think I will go with my travel experience and be careful but not cautious. 45 days and counting.

Good info guys. So since I'm only going to be there a week, I'm not going to chance it and will stick to the bottled water. That said, do certain foods have a higher chance of food poisoning? I was thinking things like rice might since they absorb a lot more water during cooking...

Thanks!
