New airline route from Pattaya to Laos

 

 

CITY Hall has announced the opening of a new airline route from Utapao Pattaya to Luang Prabang in Laos which is great news for travelers who want to explore the celebrated caves in the neighbouring country. The press conference publicising the route was attended by Rear Admiral Surapong Aysanon, representing Utapao, and Mr Saengprasit Matujan, president of Laos Airlines. The new route opens up on October 29.

It looks to be about 9-11 hours by minibus/VIP bus from Vientiane.

 

Judging by the ridiculous pricing of BKK-Luang Prabang (US$344) and Chiang Mai-Luang (US$227) for random dates in December, I would not get my hopes up about this new route.

 

Seems Bangkok Airways from BKK is about $260 so it is not going to be cheap to fly there by any means.

 

I am thinking myself, of going Pattaya-BKK-Chiang Mai(NYE)-Chaing Rai-Luang Prabang-Vietiane-Pattaya over Christmas and New years. I think I will take buses and the slow boat on the mekong, even the $86 for Laos Airlines Luang Prabang to Vientiane in an ATR-72 turboprop seems a bit dear, especially for two people. Better off to see the countryside on the long, winding bumpy minibus trip.
