Airplanes & Airport Appreciation Thread

The flight is an important part of our travels to LoS and for many of us the flyingexperience is more than transportation, it could be a hit or a shit!

So why not share our vast knowledge and pics regarding the planes, travelclasses, upgradingtricks and how to use the airport facilities to the max.

 

Here are a few pics from my last trip in Thai premium economy, got a free upgrade thanks to my Silver status and sweetmouth.

In the upgrade I also managed to get a "priority"-tag on my suitcase enabling me to get my luggage first of the conveyer belt in Swampy.

Emirates is my thing ( I work for them ) airmiles ans tier status is everything get to silver and possible instant upgrades.

Choose your flight carefully as transfer via dxb can be 2 hours or 12 or more so check transit times not only the fare.

T3 in Dubai is agiant fridge and transferring there at 4 am in a t shirt and flip flops when very tired is hell dress warmer or you will suffer ... Rows of transit passengers shivering on the seats lay down with newspapers over them to keep warm ain't pretty.

If in business class order your meal to be cooked then take a shower/ shave and meal will be ready as you finish.

Manchester ( uk) now has the A380 going to Dubai but only on the 230 pm departure the later flight is an older 777/300

Any other questions on emirates feel free to ask... No can't get free or cheap seats or legroom... Mine is free tho lol

Another tip for everyone who don't wan't to pay twice the money for Businessclass to take full advantage of the Businessclass-lounges are to apply for a Diners Club credit card.

DC is a crappy card with high intrest and a dear annual fee but the have a perk who outrivals every other cards on the market!

With the card in hand together with a valid boardingpass you get free access to lounges on most major airports in the world including BKK.

In the lounge you get food, complimentary drinks, wifi, newspapers, showers, massagechairs and more.

This is a great way to start the holiday or kill time on a stopover.

If you are like me and prefer to spend your time in a airport drinking you'll save the circa €50 DC charges you each year in no time!

Another good fringe is you may also bring a friend or two along for €10 for guest 1 and €20 for guest two, this may vary from airport to airport, see regulations for your airport.

Thanks for that tip, I'll be applying for mine soon. Doing LOS 4 times a year normally with a stop-over in the Gulf (pity Qatar isn't covered) I'll soon get the equivalent of my annual fee of £50 back and more.

That Thai PE looks like business was before flat seat about 10 years ago.  Must be worth the punt if you can't afford full business.

 

Personally, I make sure I have enough miles from work to cover me in First or Business to LOS.... so tip #3

 

Whoever you fly with - join the Frequent Flyer Programe!  And stick with that airline (or one of the Alliance) for all your trips.  By looking for the cheapest fare you could be missing out on future free trips and upgrades.  If you fly Thai, you may find that bmi Diamond Club is the best FFP for the time being.  More free miles if you get thier credit card - almost enough to take you to Thailand in business, if you pay part cash part miles.

hi paw , i fly every year with emirates but only once a year so cant get upgraded to silver status , wanna try for a seat upgrade this year as i have 17,000 miles that expire in jan if i dont use them but also want to use the lounge in dubai , do you know which part of the trip i would have to upgrade to use the lounge , hamburg-dubai or dubai-bangkok

Your chances of getting a free upgrade expands if you dress up a bit to show that you fit in PE or Biz. Apperance is everything, if I can get away with it everyone can

I've tried to get upgrades on Asiana flights and either I'm not sweet enough or they don't understand what I'm saying.

Actually it is usually because they have packed planes. I do however get business class lounge access and priority luggage. I could care less about the lounge but the priority luggage is a very nice bonus since I still haven't been able to master the art of packing light.

 

As for airports I connect in Korea and it has the nicest International Terminal I have ever been in.

 

 

Johnny, if you want to keep getting those upgrades you're going to have to start using the slippers.

I will go slow as Edge has accused me of Punting my Thread's.

 

The strange thing is Mr Edge missed just how many Threads that have not been started by me that I have tried to add & posted in.

 

Edges number one thread PUI Pocket Rocket has been graced with all the super star Photographers etc but I have done the point & shoot gang proud also in that Super thread deadicated to a great little Ho who has become well promoted & is now the new PA's Bike.

 

Some guys scream & others just rant IMO.

Just love Business & first but my bujets are Coach or Economy.

 

Points with a Frequent flyer scheme can be the way to fly in style.
