You can get a standard room at the Billabong for 700, slightly over what you were looking for.

you can get around 600 / 650b rate at Laguna guest house soi buhakao.

Not bad location.

 

Make sure you get a nice room before paying the entire period. Otherwhile they will stick you in the worst room (floor N°1) and as you ask to change, will tell you "sorry, all booked"...

 

This is not only for Laguna. It's for all hotels from 500b to 2000b. But I think you might be used to this...

 

If you get a nice cheap room somewhere else, please make a report...

A few goodies I can vouch for are Murphy's Law starting @ 450, Armageddon for the smaller rooms, and Red 5, all on Metro.

 

Go to 650-700 + and you can find some real quality.

I stayed at the Drunken Duck on Soi LK for the first 2 nights of my trip before moving down to Bangsaray Village Resort. I think you can get a room at DD for 700baht even in high season. The staff was very helpful and clean room with free WiFi a must for me IMHO this is a great location and the DD is a good value. I will stay there again.

sawasdee sabai just on the right hand side of 2nd road, it says soi 10 online but it is in the small road next to it, about 580 per night but book online and you get 3 days and the 4th free which works out about 400 per night.

I stopped in and had a look into this place during my last trip, "Pattaya Noble Place" which is located on Soi Lengkee. They were just opening up for business so I figured it would be a good opportunity to stop in. The rooms were simple but nice and came in 3 different room sizes, I would suguest booking the large room.. Here's their web site off the business card I was given..
