Boat destroyed on Pattaya Beach

The ocean off Beach Road and Pattaya beach is calm and quiet most days but there are exceptions. The power of the waves should not be underestimated, especially in the case of a fragile fishing boat made of wood. The owner of this boat had used it for a number of years I was told, and had made a reasonable profit taking people fishing and on short cruises.

Saturday, 16 October, I was on Pattaya Beach and saw a fishing boat that had been torn from its moorings during a heavy storm that night. The waves quickly drove it onto the beach where they gradually finished it off. I used the opportunity to take a few photographs of the boat´s gradual destruction. Of course the waves are small in comparison with real large ocean waves, but still their force was enough to wreck this boat in a matter of a few hours. The owner showed up a bit later and removed the engine, then Pattaya Municipality later took the remains away.

And many of `em have TGs on their arms, en route to liberate some of their baht...among other things, presumeably.

Nice pics, doesnt leave much faith in thai boats. The speed boats are made from wood too. You wouldnt want to hit a floating telephone pole at 30mph game over i think.

Good photos. Boat actually looked quite sound before the waves started giving it a pounding. Bet the owner was pretty gutted.

555 got this one too !

I'm getting better and better :Dance1:

Ok, let's go back to the subject...

Makes preaty scary to get on those boats. Waves like this should not destroy a boat. Should just push it on the beach, nothing more...

I hope people can swim when going for a tour...

Wow mate!

I actually saw this boat the following day (on the 17th) and took a quick snap of it.

It was well and truly beached and looked even worst for wear.

Thanks for sharing the 'before shots'

Looks like it was held together using PVA glue instead of nails. :o

Yikes,

I don't know what is worse . . .

  • Watching that boat get destroyed.
  • Knowing the parts washed off during the demise are sitting down in the sand waiting for a person's footstep.
  • Knowing bad 'bacteria' from that water will wash into whatever injury you will get.

Anchors, fish hooks, lures, nets, bolts, nails, frayed edges on the wood, glass shards, etc.

Be careful out there.
