Recommended Posts

Here are some Thai proverbs that mention food. They are from the Lonely Planet World Food Thailand book.

(1) Eat waterchestnuts - to fail at something

(2) Before the peanuts are done, the sesame will burn - do things in the proper order

(3) not eating noodles - two people not talking to each other

(4) like lime without juice - dull

(5) coriander leaf sprinkled on top - performing a deed only for appearances

(6) big noodle - important person

(7) cool sweet - an easy-going person

'A shit is better than a fart because then at least you have something to show for it'

off topic I know (i.e. not good food) and probably a very bad transcipt ..but I think within that is their version of 'better than a poke in the eye'?

Edit: sorry to lower the tone, looking at that again I really should have posted it elsewhere ..or just kept it to myself :)

How do you ask for food politely in thailand? And, how do too ask to reduce the "hot" spicy?

To keep it simple.

Kaw (whatever food you want) Khrap

Phet is spicy, so if you do not want it spicy you can say

Mai Phet Khrap - They will understand

If you want to say please you can say

Garoona (whatever it is you want) Noi Dai Mai Khrap

What does thai people thinking about when they are eating? About the next meal!

It has something to do with the fondness of thai people about food and eating in company.
