Anti-biotics are dangerous

Recommended Posts

In UK only a Doctor can prescribe Antibiotics but here any cross eyed Pharmacist can sell them to you.

Take too many too often and you may develop a SUPER BUG that cannot be cured!

It is happening all over the World apparently.

No new Antibiotic has been developed for over ten years now. Don't ask me why........

So next time some git puts a pack on the counter, tell them to stuff it!

To combat the possible super bug you can take antibiotics orally half the time, and anally the other half. It cancels each other out. I heard from this guy that heard it from some other guy that knows a doctor.

Its a bigger issue than that.

Especially for westerners, alot of our food like chicken is FED antibiotics

Thus its in our food chain

The othere issue that relates to Pharmacists is that we stop taking the antibiotic when we feel we are better, rather than completing the course of medication thus giving the bug a chance to recoup and fight back

I did notice in thailand the pharmacist is able to prescribe your medication which help me when I got the BUG (first timer) and it did worry me a little

But I guess it works for thailand

Anyway Buy organic food, complete your medication unless instructed otherwise from your doctor.

None of which I do..lol

What are you supposed to do if you get an infection, NOT take antibiotics?

The whole AB / superbug phenomenen is a complete phallacy, much like the MMR scare. UK Tabloid 'newspaper' journalists took swabs from handrails, tables in AnE etc & didn't get the results that they wanted when they sent them off to legitimate labs.

Step forward Dr Chris Malyszewicz PhD from Chemsol Labs, with his correspondance course phD & his lab, which is a shed in his back garden with MDF surfaces; cross contamination anyone?

For years, he furnished journalists with 'proof' that MRSA was rife in every hospital & helped the tabloid media to convince us that we were all about to DIE. What a complete cunt, even more so that the now (not) Dr Andrew Wakefield.

The antibiotic / superbug connection is not a fallacy - a point that Dr Ben Goldacre (author of Bad Science) would probably baulk at arguing against. The page you have highlighted rubbishes the presence of superbugs in UK hospitals and how widespread it is - a totally different matter to their existence and cause. Admittedly newspapers hype things up excessively, but that is only their job. MRSA and Clostridium difficile have been caused by (sometimes indiscriminate and unregulated) overuse of antibiotics. The newly discovered NDM-1 enzyme can make bacteria resistant to a wide range of antibiotics including those currently used as a last line in defense. It was discovered in India - a country whose population commonly self-medicates with antibiotics that are both cheap and sold over the counter in an unregulated manner. According to a World Health Organisation meeting in Manila earlier this year, gonorrhea is showing signs of becoming drug-resistant in some countries. I know of at least 2 AC visitors and 1 from Cambodia that have returned from their trips and had to resort to professional treatment due to "particularly virulent strains" that the usual self-treatment by the 'one shot of Zithro' didn't solve.

It is not a question of avoiding taking medication - it's avoiding the infections in the first place and then taking appropriate professional advice when needed.

My Doctor told me its not the individual that has problems from taking too many antibiotics its the community that has the problem, if too many antibiotics are taken in the community then the various strains of bacteria can become resistant .

Well, like my brother, a GP says....

I can prescribe antibiotics and it will clear up in a week or so, otherwise it might take seven days

(for minor infections of course ... need something serious if your leg is gangrenous!)

Also - people who don't finish a full course of antibiotics for serious things like TB - the bugs develop resistance very quickly.

Seriously, folks. Dont do anti-biotics, unless you're about to die. Most of them work too slow to be faster than the natural immune response and will give you the shits for a couple of days and the ones that will *whoosh* kill anything, may give you this, because the only thing that doesn't die is really nasty and now has no competition. My sister is a doctor and she says she sees more side-effects from drugs than you'd imagine. Unless you're already a weak old bastard, just take your herbal tea, wait 7 days and get back up. Chances are it was probably a virus anyway.

Never take antibiotics on your own. You must to doctor first and understand what is your problem (infection). You can destroy your immune system taking antibiotics too often. Antibiotics is the only way to cure gonorrhea and syphilis and other STD, but it is very important to kill infection on 100%

As a result of abuse of antibiotics, we are gradually seeing the rise of drug-resistant bacteria--superbugs that are a real danger to our health. So we should eat antibiotics by following the doctor's direction, not more ,not less.

It's not just drug resistance. I was reading that certain (common) antibiotics taken over a long period of time can cause can cause a rare form of lupus.:WTF1:

I had a small abcess on my thigh so I went to the doc, who gave me antibiotics. I didn't think it cleared it up completely so I persuaded my doc to give me another course. Then I went on holiday to Patts, saw another doc and got a third course.

It cleared up the abcess but all the good bacteria in my body had been killed too and I got a penile yeast infection! The end of my dick went red and felt tender. Nothing helped to clear it up and I thought it would stay like that forever. It did eventually go away but I would say it was 12-18 months before my dick got back to normal again. Now I'm not ever taking antibiotics again unless it's really serious. A lesson to all!

That's the downside of taking broad spectrum ABs long term. The gut contains many species of bacteria, the vast majority of which are required for digestion & the 'immune system'. Bacterial yoghurts, such as Yakult, only contain one species & are almost useless in replenishing lost bacterium.

Interestingly, recent research has shown that the appendix may not be a vestigial organ, but acts as a safe haven for bacteria, which can then thrive again once diminished.

Seriously gents,

First the definition of Wikipedia

"An antibacterial is a substance that kills bacteria or slows their growth"

There is a ton of different AB`s out there, we are talking different substances - that also function differently. The ones used in intensive care units are different to the ones used by our doctor and different to the ones sold in a Pattaya pharmacy.

Pharma companies have whole departments looking for new ABs - for the super bug.

However I don`t think there is a big problem through the types sold over the counter, as these are almost always old and longtime used AB`s - new superstrength power AB`s are seriously expensive - nobody buys them without seeing the doctor.

Anyway go see a doctor first before you take any AB`s, might take longer but at least you know you have the right meds.

One more thing:

Many suggest a good rest and herbal tea should do the trick - alot of times it does - but then it wasn`t serious enough to warrant AB`s. If you need them take`em.

Did you see a qualified doctor about it ? This sort of problem is easily sorted by using the same preparations as women use for thrush. Canestan (in the UK) have a product called 'Duo' which is a dual-pronged appraoch - a tablet to help clear the infection and a soothing cream to cool external symptoms. I have found it to be quite effective and symptoms last 1 week at maximum. "12-18 months to clear up" suggests you did nothing or had underlying health issues. There are many kinds of antibiotic - if you take them regularly, you will eventually find one that causes this sort of reaction. Have a word with your doctor for suitable alternatives. I personally find Doxycycline to be the worst offender.

I did see a doctor, who first advised me that a yeast infection can be very difficult to rid yourself of. I have no underlying health issues but I admit I didn't consistently use canestan for long enough. I think you're supposed to apply it twice per day for over a month in order for it to be as effective as possible, so I admit that. My point though is that a yeast infection is something a lot of men seem to think that only women can get, and I've learned that once you've got one, it can take a hell of a long time to go away! I've read about tons of people on the web who have persistent, lifelong yeast infections and doctors' advice and recommended medications do nothing to help! Hence, I now understand why so many doctors are loathe to prescribe antibiotics unless it's really necessary.

As an old man my Dr. tested me for immunity to antibiotics and found 2/3 of them were useless for me so don't take them if possible. some guys take them as a preventive, very bad move.

Has anyone heard of colloidal silver?

:NoNo3: It was used in WW1, before the invention of AB. It is pretty useless - sometmes it is used to purify water - medics do warn from internal use.

In alternative medicin it can up again in the 1990`s - there where claims it would cure among others cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, herpes and tuberculosis.

:ThankGod1: Concerning AB`s; please:

A. Self medication is mosttimes effectless - sometimes harmfull, if you are sick go see a doctor - there is areason he studied medicine for years.

B. Anti-biotics saved millions of lives, if you doubt that - "get yo`self some learn`on" :22600584-Th:

Resistant strains are caused by taking incorrect antibiotics for the type of infection or too few of them. IMO under dosing is a bigger problem than over dosing.

Yes but I think this is the problem when people self-prescribe. They don't understand that they have to complete a full course to clear whatever it that they have. Also I suspect that most people who take them prophylactically only do so for a very short period (perhaps just once) and think that they are OK. The other problem is taking broad spectrum antibiotics when a more targeted one is a better solution.
