Worrying new request from the airlines

I caught a long distance flight (unfortunately not from LOS) back to the UK via Germany on Monday. Whilst waiting to board there was an announcement over the tannoy asking everyone to ensure that they had filled in the details on the back of their boarding passes.

Clearly no-one was aware of this as everyone in the lounge checked the back of their boarding passes and there was a stunned silence. Stamped on was a box with space for a contact person (not traveling with you) and their contact number. Although it did not say so, this was clearly to be used in the event of something happening to the plane.

I do a fair bit of travelling and have never come accross this before. I am not sure if it is standard practice, if it is airline specific or if it was because we were flying to Germany, one of the European countries where the terror threat is at its highest.

Would be interested to hear if this has happened to any other BMs.

Very curious...

Never heard of that. I'll actually fly to Germany tomorrow (with BA). Will check and report back.

I wonder though, you can print your own boarding passes at home when cheking in online. They wouldn't have anything on the back...

Never have to write it at the back of the boarding pass but it is normal prociger when buying tickets online. Whenever I am buying tickets from Air Asia for example they ask to write down contact persons phone number. I don't see anything worrying about that. Who cares as long as I get wherever I am going.

Though not on the ticket itself, I have had to do this when purchasing tickets online here in the US for quite some time.

I've had this at various times, sometimes at the gate check in, sometimes at the ticket counter etc... Seems to be random over the last few years but it is nothing that I found to be overly unusual.

Would be interested to find out if you had to do it - just out of curiousity. I flew out from the UK last week via Germany and there was no request to do it. It was only on the return leg returning long haul via Germany.

It may be normal procedure for Air Asia but I it is not when buying tickets on line in the UK. Just curious as I travel a lot and it is never something that I have come across before.

This is or will be a new EU regulation that requires the airlines to ask the travellers to provide "next of kin" information. I understand that the passenger is not obligated to provide that information.

  • 3 weeks later...

sorry, lead, totally forgot to get back on this...

I had no such thing happening flying to and from Germany on the recent trip. Spoke with a flight attendant (BA) and she didnt really know what I was talking about, either.

I'm in Patts at the moment, having flown with Emirates via Dubai. Also made a trip to Cambodia with AirAsia (BKK-PNH) and did not come across anything unusual. No requests writing something on the ticket, no phone number or next-of-kin info required.

Strange, that.

Cheers

I have just booked another long haul flight and this time round they asked for the next of kin information at the time of booking.

    • For those that don't know, I did Friday meetings before many years ago,  I feel like we are missing a regular meeting for members,  I am aware guys meet at PA affiliated bars. But I want to start meeting people again, I'm inviting the guys following my YouTube also.

The meetings is a chance to get to meet each other,  I plan to be at every meeting, I also have Dean from Dive bar that has offered to help out with a crawl after.
The meetings will be  Monday  6 pm - 8 pm each week.  (The improvised bar crawl will commence at 8 p.m.  Dean will make his own plans for that.)

Due to low numbers of people in town, I will start the meetings in our bars to help our girls and managers, please check back often incase things are changed.  I will be sharing the love around town later, but Soi 6 is first on my list (including bars that are friendly competition)
If bar owners want us to have a meeting at their bar,  they need to have a minimum of 10 girls.  I'm not dragging people to empty bars for favours.
Please help us invite other members, it takes a while to get momentum.
Monday 6 pm - 8pm  (then bar crawl after)
      21st March - Playpen Soi 6
28th March - Night wish bar Soi 6
4th April - Toy Box bar Soi 6
      11th April - Repent Soi 6
18th April - where angels play Soi 6
25th April -  (next bar we have open)

2nd May - (next bar we have open)
      9th May - Cooters bar soi 6
16th May - Hot shots bar Soi 6
23rd May - (next bar we have open)
      30th of May - Lust soi 6
      6th of June - Illuzion
13th of June - (next bar we have open)

I look forward to meeting people again.
