I haven't studied in Thailand but a couple of months ago I stayed near Assumption University and I can you tell that the student ladies there are hot hot hot!

With 10 k and if you have a typical Scandinavian look as in white skin and tall- you will fast become the campus hooker.

Congratulation and keep us updated.

Why would the goverment pay for your studies?

Me myself I am planning to study at Ramkhamhaeng, starting from Nov or Dec.

We are captives of our own identities, living in prisons of our own creation.

We actually overthrowed the socialist regime many moons ago and are living in a prosperous and free country without the constant surveillance from the goverment and authoritys most other "free" nations suffers from!

Except that the goverment can have surveilance on your phones without a court order, right? :o

Sweden is a great country, I think I can get the same support (or atleast including studyloan) but only after the 1st year. I'm thinking about studying there though, so we'll see if I can save enough for the first year myself :P

You seem to be confusing socialism (an economic system) with an authoritarian state.

No one is gonna be impressed with your Thai diploma. If you stay in LOS and learn Thai, you are still a measly graduate. You do realize that many 7/11 girls have college diplomas, don't you? You are looking at fairly low paying LOS jobs because so many people have degrees these days.

Obviously, if you make some connections things could be different. That's what most people think... that they will somehow meet some rich people who give them a sweet job. But most end up going home when they realize how bleak the job prospects are in los, and that connections are almost always reserved for Thais that meet Thais.

Then you come back home and realize that a Thai diploma is worth next to nothing. People will sort of give you credit for it, but generally choose a candidate from real schools. Thai higher education is not respected by anyone in the world - including Thais.

***

So in general, it's a bad idea. You are swimming against the current. It will be an uphill battle for sure. That said, chances are very good you will score with a lot of women particularly after you learn Thai, but you have to be very careful. Gossip might kill your game once girls realize you are sleeping around.

Absolutely agree!

A diploma from most Thai Universities is in the Western world not even worth the paper written on.

Everyone will just ask you “how was your holiday”.

I met plenty of European guys who graduated in Bangkok and now desperately looking for jobs, abroad and local.

The foreign students I meet in Bangkok in both Ramkamhaeng and ABAC ( Assumption) were only going to stay for a semester ( about 3 months) and they were primarily there for enjoyment.

Studied Graduate Economics at Thamassat University. Lots of fun. Good for networking.

If you are not yet decided on a program then let me recommend a great college degree program which will definitely lead to job offers both in Thailand and abroad.

Check into the MBA program at Chulalongkorn (SASIN Institute) . Taught by prefessors from Chula as well as Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Lots of opportunity there. Lots of great networking and leads for job openings there.

I've met a guy doing an MBA at Chula not long ago... he was cautiously optimistic. I would like to meet someone who has actually graduated from Chula MBA and got a job in LOS or elsewhere to hear their stories.

Chula does double pricing as well. While not as expensive as US schools, it is still very expensive for Westerners.

Similar things ???... oh I have been studying pussy in Pattya for more than 15 years. Guess entitels me an MPP. By the way have a real MBA. Unless the studying in Thailand is part of a study from an EU or USA university - forget it - not worth anything if you a serious.

The remarks about Swenden and Socialism - Bullshit - I am not Swedish. If you want to see where the world is heading longtime and you are an optimist , look at the Scandinavian region.

Just attend some meetings of the British-Thai or German-Thai-Chamber of Commerce and you will meet quite a number of foreign university graduates who desperately try to get in touch with the top guys of foreign companies.

Don’t get me wrong, many are real nice guys and very enthusiastic, but most of the time they are not even noticed by the real big guns.

Another reason is that most foreign companies with operations in LOS recruit their expat staff at their global/regional headquarters.

Hi Slick,

Thanks for posting this. Do you know what the cost is for the MBA program? Ballpark figure is good enough.

Thanks!

But with a 50% income tax rate and 25% VAT. Still you do have excellent medical and pension benefits, plus it seems your students get to spunk 50k baht a month in Thailand for a few years. Dammit I wanna be a Swede in my next life, I promise I'll work hard at school!

Hi Slick,

Based on a 30:1 conversion (USD) it will run about $34,000 USD total (~17K per year) for the 2 years you will be there for tuition/books/fees. Add another $1,000 per month if u live and eat on campus. More if your living off campus.

Very expensive for Thai standards BUT your being taught with Wharton and Kellogg professors. You also can then claim alumni with both colleges and they even get you involved with Wharton/Kellogg job placement program. Anyone with relationships with these 2 colleges which are some of the best in USA for MBA's are definately gonna come out with some key contacts. Furthermore, many Fridays on the Sasin MBA campus are used for networking seminars thru lectures from visiting executives. I saw a list of some of the executives and was quite impressed. CEO's from some of the top companies in the world as well as Asia. After these lectures they have "meet-n-greets" where a lot of business cards are being passed around. Sasin's Job Placement programs are also top notch.

Students with Sasin can also apply for a Summer Exchange program with Kellogg/Wharton/Cornell/Duke just to name a few. Also Internships via Kellogg/Wharton for work inside and outside Thailand. Great way to get your foot in the door of a International company.

The King himself used to pass out the diplomas at Sasin which is a great honor in itself. I doubt he is doing it now due to his health but Im sure a high ranking member of the Royal Family will be presenting for future graduates. Makes for a great photo opportunity as well as a way to meet the Royal family.

Just my 2 cents....

I'd like to correct you a bit here my friend! The income tax is rarely over 30% and the only way to hit 50% is to make a shitload of money and by then you can make plenty of tax-reducting manouvers to keep a majority of it anyway.

The VAT is differs from 6-25% depending on the service or commodity.

Sweden is indeed a great place to live if you don't mind 4-5 months of winter every year :P

Oh yeah we got a abundance of hot & horny chics too :D

Also, because of the lack of jobs in Sweden and because of that I get to enjoy the hot Swedish chicks as well. I actually go after the Swedish chicks instead of the Norwegian ones!

Thank you Sweden!

Yep, base rate tax to the employee is around 30%, but then if you figure in the 32% employer contribution which you don't see on your payslip the actual rate is +/- 50% which can be reduced with private pension contribution credits or earned income tax credits.

Most Vat is 25%, hotels are 12% food, books, internal travel 6%

I went out with a Swedish girl in my younger days for about 5 years, she was hot!

Have you ever noticed that Swedish and Norweigen girls 1) are the most horny ones if given just a little alkohol 2) Their sound contribution is second to none. Screamers ! I truly mean this based on my experience and I also have a deep respect and love for Nordic girls

Getting back ontopic:

Yes, I did both my internships in the Pattaya/Jomtien region, for two times, for my Bachelors degree International Business.

The first one was organized by one of my teachers. He lives in the area and set up a project for students to work on. We had to visit different companies within the Pattaya/Jomtien region and analyze them in cooperation with the chamber of commerce.

My second project was organised by a teacher back here in my country, who had contacts with the local Asian University in Banglamung. In that university I had my office at that time. I needed to analyze if it was interesting for a Dutch company to start providing business within Thailand eastern seaboard.

Overall, it was a very nice time :) but like living everywhere for some time it had its ups and downs.

I got my certificate from my home university when I came back home last september.

I think that a lot of people (like dc_publius and Benny10) give some good replies. A Thai degree is worth nothing back home. In Thailand I also met some people who studied university, but at the end got just lousy jobs in restaurants or bars.

You can maybe try to contact and network during the time you study in Thailand, and get yourself in that way a job in Thailand once you are finished. You can maybe pick up the langauge and culture better, but within Thailand you will always be seen as a foreigner.

Another thing:

I just did some research in only doing a master (one or two years) at a Thai university. Still however is the certificate you receive not really recognized outside Thailand. I also saw the huge costs for only doing a master. At the university I had my office, the costs were 399.000 Thai baht for the master program of 18 months. The costs of accomodation and food are not calculated in that amount.
