This is quite handy thanks for posting.

Nice guide for newbies. What I keep meaning to get when I'm over there is a picture of one of those tables from inside the bus. They tell you which number goes where, although my experience tells me that it wouldn't be entirely reliable.

I always thought it meant 'two rows'.

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

How is traffic these days? Is it better just to walk distances of less than ten minutes?

Here's a tip:

Try not to select a baht bus with a driver that insists on:

steering with his knees

while attempting to roll a cig

spilling the tobacco in the process

then meticulously picking each shred of tobacco off his shirt

to finally complete & light said cig

... all while in full motion without ever once looking up from lap

if you want to change the baht bus into a taxi and go to a specific place the general rule of thumb is;

say you are at Walking Street and your hotel is in North Pattaya offer 100 baht and you should be good to go, most will go North pattaya/third road/walking st area for 100 bt

not sure about Jomtien as only been up that end a few times, but pretty sure prices similar to OP's post

I gave 1 as well.

The songthaews with the white stripe along the side go to Jomtien - or at least they are supposed to.

It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God, I know, I'm one.

Baht Busses go both North and South on Buakow. The ones going South turn West on South Pattaya Road and stop at 2nd Road. Just ahead and to the left is Walking Street. Some of these turn North on 2nd Road, some go South. If you don’t want to get off here, wait for the turn and, if it’s the wrong way, hit the buzzer and get off. Walk across the intersection and wait for one going your direction. Since Buakow kind of peters out in the North direction, I’m not sure exactly where they turn around up North.

If you want to go to 3rd Road and places East, I’m sure you can, but I don’t know how. I’m still enough of a newbie to just know the prime areas.

Very good post Phil, however I'll add a bit more info. Going north on soi Buakhaow, the vast majority of buses turn left onto Pattaya Klang. At the junction with 2nd Road most will turn right and go north to the Dolphin Roundabout (though some will go straight on directly to Beach Road), and then south onto Beach Road.

Buses also run along Pattaya Nua, Pattaya Klang and Pattaya Tai as far as Sukhumvit, and back. Just stand by the road and wait for one to come along, however they aren't as frequent as the buses on the Beach Road/2nd Road loop, BTW Pattaya Nua is also called North Pattaya Road; Pattaya Klang, Central Pattaya Road and Pattaya Tai, South Pattaya Road.

To go to Jomtien, look for the line of buses outside the school on Pratumnak Road (the extension of 2nd road beyond Pattaya Tai). Once full they will go as far as soi Chayapruek in Jomtien for 10 baht.

The general fare within Pattaya is 10 baht (now for both Thais and Farangs), but I hear a lot of tourists are now paying 20, so that may become the norm in the near future. I've lived here for over 8 years and the price hasn't gone up in that time, whereas the cost of petrol has risen dramatically - it was only 15 baht a litre 8 years ago!

That is really a good point. Personally, I would have no problem paying 20 baht for the Baht buses.

when you go out to eat do you leave a 100% tip? How about Coops bar? 100% tip?

the buses are a great way of getting around the city , rather unique in a way , but do they not turn into personal taxis after a certain time at night as they always seem to want to charge me more than the going rate after say 8pm from were im staying on 3rd road, still value for money as opposed to other places in thailand
