Bringing a laptop

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I will be staying at flipper house , and they don't have a room safe only a hotel safe .

Is it ok to bring a laptop with me and leave it in the room or there a good chance that it can be stolen ?

By the way is it a good idea to leave all my money and cards in the hotel safe ?

Thanks for information guys...

I have stayed at Flipper House with my laptop many times and never had a problem. I actually leave it on the side with my papers etc rather than hide it away and it has never been an issue.

There are safety deposit boxes for each room behind reception although they are quite small and you will not get a laptop in there.

ive posted a similiar topic in the past..nobody had any hassle

your laptop should be safe in a hotel, very safe to leave out on the desk all the time.

i usually have my expensive laptop out on the desk in the August Suites for weeks on end and no hassle

however if your staying in a cheap condo id be more careful :GoldenSmile1:

Buy a laptop lock in your home country and bring it with you. It's not full proof but it will give you a bit more security.

I read on the Queen Vic site that they provide these cables for free. Maybe some other hotels/guest houses do the same. When I stayed at LK Renaissance, I didn't bring my laptop so I didn't ask. Next time I will in advance and if they don't, I'll bring my own.

I normally leave my laptop on the desk during the day and lock it in my case before going out at night as I don't know how trustworthy the girl I'll be bringing back will be.

Staying at hotels ranging from 3 to 5 stars in Bangkok and Pattaya, I've never had a problem with my laptop or other belongings. All of the hotels that I 've stayed at, had a safe though!

Overall, you shouldn't worry too much. Such unfortunate incidents occur rarely, especially in a hotel.

Always have brought one over 5 years with no thefts. Also it never hurts to tip the housekeepers decently and be polite as they do alot of work for very little money.

I actually purchased one of the laptop cable locks for my trip. The usual name/brand one looks under is

Kensington, but generics work just as well. Prices start around $15, and go on up from there.

General info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington_Security_Slot

I purchased a laptop lock at Tuckom Pattaya.

Price 199 baht.That's a bargain.

Been comin to Pattaya 30 yrs, never had a thing stolen. But that maybe because I always stayed at places owned by my friends. The same for Bangkok. Now retired here I did bring a laptop cable lock because it was a few days before our condo was ready. But even then we stayed at One Mansion Soi 3. They have large hinges-hasp on the door & will provide you a lock, besides a room safe.

Whats better still I have a motion detector alarm which cost less than $30.00 & has a small remote. You can hang it anywhere, runs on 3 AA battries. If set off it screams like hell & whose to know its not wired to a security system. Once you open your door you have 10 sec. to activate the remote before setting it off.

The intensity of the alarm is such no one could ignore it & proceed to take your valuables.

I keep my laptop inside my carry on luggage. Just locked it up and chain it to something sturdy.

if ur worried about ur laptop u should lock it in ur bag when ur not in the room, a friend of mine had his laptop stolen from an expensive apartment in a well respected pattaya hotel (most likely by the staff). and if ur worried about a girl stealing it while ur in the shower or comatosed from a big night of drinking and fucking, most hotels generally have security and it would be pretty hard for the girls to sneak it in they're handbag..

It should be safe in a decent place but u never know,I had my laptop in a guest house and never had a problem. I did stay at a shitty hotel in Bangkok and had a camera stolen. The net book is a good idea,it's fairly cheap and it is light to carry around.

Keep anything - money, cards and laptop in hotel safe (in your room). It is the best way to not loose it. I am doing that before, when I come on holiday to Pattaya, but it was small netbook, so I can keep it even in room safe (too small for big notebook).

I think its better to be safe than sorry and keep things locked away or at least out of sight. I have a couple of products from PACSAFE Much like the laptop locks in that you connect them to plumbing or something solid but with the advantage you can tip loads of stuff inside that you not rather leave around . They're basically a steel mesh reinforced bag tethered with a steel rope, you can get loads of different sizes, I'm well chuffed with mine and use them all the time. They're not cheap but look around ebay etc you can save some pennies.

Cheers
