Getting sick in Patts

Advice please.

In May of 2009 I got a Virus of some sort that caused me nausia, sweating and loss of appietite.

A trip to hospital in Soi 4, Intravienous injections and on a drip for 2 hrs didn't help.

I had eaten raw Oysters in one of the fancy Seafood places in Nakula, the one that fronts the sea.

Doctor said that was the cause of it.I lost over 10 kg's in weight (not a bad thing)but it

took over a month to go away. This year I go late June till early July, not there for even 2 days,I get sick again.

Sore throat,sweating/fever,blocked sinus's and chest infection.Cleared up 3 days before going home.

A trip to hospital again and Doctor says, climate? when it rains, which it did a lot,it brings down Bacteria and Virus's

Prior to this trip I went and saw my family doctor and had vaccine shots for taiphoid/Hep A and a Liquid

substnace,to be taken in 2 doses, called Duceroll,I think which was supposed to prevent sickness.

I have been to Patts 6 times at different times of the year, but seem to get sick around May-July.

Curious to know if anyone has had the same issues.

What are you drinking habits compared to home? I am on a mobile device and can't see where you are from but the air conditoners do a toll on some people

I always used to get sick when I visited Pattaya. I think it was a combination of the change in climate, being on a long plane trip (you breath air from a lot of other sick people) and kissing a lot of thai girls (many of whom have colds etc).

Now I live here full time i don't have any problems, must be acclimatised to the weather, and girls.

Never Thought of this!

Could be quite true, especially about kissing the girls.

My TG,who was with me for the full stay had a cold the first couple of days I was with her.

She got better,I got worse.

I wonder if Pussy licking is a problem as well 555,I hope not.

Thanks for your imput chris 2004

I call it the Soi 6 Flu or the Bar Girl fever... sometimes I get a nasty infection / flu type thing. My mate gets a nasty reaction to the shellfish... I personally stay on healthy foods or spicy foods... I also take / pack / get / have on me an assortment of antibiotics for infections from sinus to intestinal ...

Yeah Dudebrah looked into this too.

My TG bought some spray thing and was hitting the filter everyday.

Complained at reception, but they said all filters had just been cleaned

and the maids also hit the filters with spray when they make up the room.

I stayed at R-CON.

Hi Mike

At home (the land down under) I am a moderate drinker,a few red wines with dinner, and occasional sessions

at the club/pub nothing drastic.

In Patts it's everyday.maybe 10-15 Gin and Tonic's and a few beers every day to get me to a happy state.

Some days I will have a big binge and get absolutley shit faced.I know this is not good when on medication, but what else can you drink, you can only drink so much water, especially when your on Hols.

Cheers

G'day Tansak KTV

Yes this is the first time I got the Flu,according to Doc in Patts hospital I had an acute upper resptory infection.

Runny nose, flem and all that shit!

I will never touch uncooked seafood in Patts ever again and I now eat only at 2-3 places where I know

the turnover is huge and the food is good.

Namely Sailor Bar,PBG and kiss food, and it's mainly Thai that eat.

The only thing I pack is Immodium,in I need real quick 555.

The pharmacy's in Thai all carry the antibiotics OTC (over the counter)... I'd get your local doc to give you a run down of what to take, for what reason, and in what dosage. Thai pharmacy's are pretty good are recommending items but I'd still run shit through your doctor at home as they should know your history and the med's your taking now.

But the general ones are augmentin, cephalexin, amoxicillin, etc... I'm not shy to throw down a few pills. You want to spend your holiday in bed with your pecker up not in bed sicker then a dog. But it sounds like you could have lessened the affects by taking some drugs right away and avoided a trip to the hospital.

Sailor Bar is good and cheap but there are so many good places it isn't funny. Beer Garden, Stone Oven bottom Soi 6, the buffet's on soi 3 and naklua and by the bus parking areas (forget the name) etc... I would not limit it to just three places as you'd miss out on too much...

My mate ate oysters at a side shop late night after we pulled some girls from WS... sicker then a dog for two days... I'd just avoid that type of stuff for a while... when in doubt, eat spicy cooked thai food and nothing raw...

No I don't just limit myself to the 3 places I mentioned, but they are my favorite for various reasons.

The sailor bar is good and cheap (55 baht breakfast) and easy to head up beach rd to go to WS.

Beer garden is upmarket and romatic, good to impress, nice setting and views.Again not far from WS

Kiss food is is also good value and good for a feed on the way home on 2nd rd.

This trip I took my TG to the top of Marklands hotel ( great views),Rhuen on 2nd rd ( very traditional Thai)

and an Italian restaurant at the north end of beach rd (over rated).I could not find Rogers.

We also eat at the beach at Jomtien, but I steer clear of Som Tum,and get soups and noodles from the markets

near R-Con where I was staying.

As sick as I was, fever was the worst,But between the V,alcohol and antibiotics It didn't stop me from

Shagging my brains out555 .I am 57 yrs and fit and give the TG's a run for their money, they love it and soon

stop calling me Papa 555

Thanks for your imput Cheers

try an antihistimate right away, you might be having a reaction to the different molds and pollens that are not in your home country.. worth a try.

I assume it is an antihistamine, for Hayfever etc

will the different moulds and pollens etc cause fever/sweating as this is my biggest concern.

Cheers.Thanks for your input Cariden

I have had food poisoning twice once in june and once in april (songkran might of been after swallowing water by mistake)

1st time I got sick it was thru raw shell fish (Oysters)Doctor told me they were

usually grown in polluted waters and Western stomach's had no resistance to the Bacteria.

I lost nearly 10 kg,s in a matters of 2 weeks.

Very carefull what I eat now and where from.

Last trip it was Flu and fever, screwed my Holiday for about 12 days.

Fever was my biggest issue,it came and went without warning and when it hit

I would sweat profusely. Many factors here as mentioned earlier.

There are some precautions you take before leaving home,Vaccinations oral medication etc.

I don't think water will give you food poising, more likely diarrhea.

Cheers

Last year over a hundred diners and staff at The Fat Duck Restaurant in Berkshire England all went down with food poisoning.

So what your thinking...but this restaurant has previously been voted the No.1 restaurant in the world, its chef

Heston Blumenthal is regularly on TV.

The cause turned out to be imported oysters contaminated with human sewerage and improperly cooked razor clams,

so everybody contracted the norovirus.

Most people have heard of this or even suffered from it with the vomiting and filling of your boxer shorts!

So if one of the most famous restaurants in the world can Poison people with its shellfish then I will confidently say that seafood diners in Patts have gone down with same virus.

What can you do about it? well nothing you may have just been unlucky, perhaps they were really busy and food wasn't cooked for long enough due to the pressure and stress they were under I can personally vouch for that!

I would certainly avoid eating raw oysters unless you know they are grown in clean seas and wash your hands with an anti-bacterial gel before you handle any food ie: shellfish, kebabs...

Brits can look in £ shops for the little bottles on the soap shelves they're small enough to carry around in your

cammo shorts and have screw tops to stop spillage.

Hi, I visit Patts. More so for the cheap living, weather etc. I do not visit the girls for sex so zero contact on that front. Nor am I gay and I dont drink alcohol lol so when I go for a coke in a bar needless to say the girls get a little upset if I dont bar them.

Anyway I got a sore a throat and my kidneys hurt like hell for 4 days but both only in the mornings. This is a classic sign of some form of bacterial infection which quietens down when I wake up as immune system kicks in. I believe it is the water which will definately contain bacteria which we are not used to. There is little you can do to avoid it as you get ice in your drinks etc.

After living here for 4 years I still haven't acclimatised to the filthy air here, in the 1st year I had 7 sinus infections, that rate has lessened greatly to only a couple of times a year, had Swine flu a month or so ago that kicked the shit out me.

As far as shellfish go here, I avoid it like the plague, after getting sick a couple of times from it, shellfish are filter feeders and whatever crap is in the water will be in them and lets face it there is plenty of crap in the seawater here.

I got a massive dose of food poisoning about 2 weeks ago from a Salmon fillet, and mid year from a Pork Sausage that wasn't cooked properly, all meat here has to be treated with a certain amount of suspicion.

I used to say that food hygiene in Thailand leaves a lot to be desired, that opinion has changed to NON EXISTENT.

I can attest to that: even my TGF gets sick, just riding home in the rain can have her as sick as a dog the next day.You can blame it on the sea food - dirty air cons - the water - the moister in the air - the ice cubes - pollen, lets face it, it's not the cleanest or healthiest place on earth, even cialis can give you a pain in the kidneys with a stuffed up head to boot.Plus some of us tend to go overboard with the alcohol, which lowers the immune system as well. luckily the medication is cheap here.

There seemed to be a bit of a bug going round when I was there is August. I had it for a few days and it was a combination of the runs with a bit of a fever. A few other Soi 6 regulars that I know also experienced it. First time that I have ever been sick in Thailand. I do try to wash my hands as often as possible and also to eat healthily but the chances are that due to food hygiene etc sooner or later in most people will end up catching some sort of bug in Pattaya.
