do you trust Tukcom to buy a mobile phone?

thinking about getting a new HTC unlocked mobile. Tukcom surely has the most choices but I think the place is a little shady and scared of getting a gray market phone.

Anyone ever have any bad experiences there with phones?

HTC? One expensive shop in TukCom that I know of selling real HTC's and their pricing was through the roof compared to EU and even USA. The other ones I saw were knock off's.

Overall the new and used Nokia's are reliable and I know of one reliable and pretty honest (honest for thai business folks) guy who fixes phones at Tuk Com. When other shops can't fix they send to this guy. For HTC I personally got from Ebay from EU shipped to USA and hand carried over to Pat's for me.

If it was Nokia, I wouldn't be afraid to buy in Tuk Com but HTC you'll pay way too much at Tuk Com. If you have other options (someone to bring to you) then use that option for sure.

Personally I've never had any good experiences in there regarding phones,I've always had problems whether it's a phone repair gone wrong or problems with a phone I've bought from there,I'm not alone though,I know a few Thai's who have had problems with stuff they've bought there too.

Their after sales service leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

I always take phones to be repaired at Best Phone on Soi Buakhow, the boss is sound and in 3 years I've never had a problem there with repairs or phones I've bought from them and his wife is gorgeous too.

I would certainly look at alternatives to tukcom when buying an expensive phone like an HTC as if you do get any problems it's always a case of "we have to send to Bangkok, you wait 6 weeks ok".

Very good advice.

I have never had a problem with any phone i have bought there, but i have only bought bog standard phones.

I bought my Iphone 3Gs in the new central shopping mall down the beach. I bought it out the shop with the yellow and black sign on it and have had great after service from them. Most of my friends buy from them and have got no complaints

Went to the zoo today. Spent ages at the camel enclosure, looking at their toes. They look nothing like a fanny. Disappointing.

The basic phones aren't a problem, there's people there that can repair them easy but the high tech stuff is a no no for me at tukcom because they just don't have the specialist knowledge.

I took a top of the range Nokia in there once with a minor irritating fault,it came back completely f**ked and the usual Thai attitude of "not work when you bring here, not our problem".

Not disagreeing with you Bob but I can almost guarantee that if you'd bought your iphone in tukcom and had a problem you would have lost it for a good while. They're ok for changing screens and covers but technical stuff they're not very clever.

The shop i bought my 3Gs out of has a shop in Tukcom too

@Mike Asia. The only thing i get them to do is reset my Phone once i get back to Pattaya so i have Internet and MMS capability. They don't charge me a thing and the owner (if he is in) gives me a cup of coffee and chats about life. I really like them and it's really annoying me that i can't remember the name of the bloody shop!!!

For basic dumbphones, Tukcom is fine. But for authentic quality smartphones, I think Tukcom prices are high. You can get better deals elsewhere. If your travel permits, try a trip to MBK or Pantip in BKK for electronics shopping. Cheers.

Regarding the guy that hand carried that phone to you, hope you tip and pay for one of his AMP trips next time you see him. :Thanks3:

Why would I do that I carry him protein powder that TSA thinks is cocaine, Hard Rock T Shirts, but more importantly get him a one bedroom apartment for 1,000 baht a night... I must save him, 20,000 baht per trip...

I expect the room deposit and the room savings to be applied on Soi 6 for a few water buffalo...

Why would I do that....

Hand carrying the phone was only part of the service provided. You also hijacked half his luggage and filled it up with over a year's worth of prophylactics and adult toys. A relaxing massage to relieve sore muscles for carrying all your gear would be more than fair I think. :D

Unfortunately that's par for the course in there, there's maybe a couple of good stalls but generally there's far too many scammers for my liking.

I bought my TGF a 2nd hand phone out of Tukcom and the battery had a 1 day lifespan and off course they refused to swap it

you have to remember that Tukcom is a Mall with 100's of traders

If you to to the top floor (Power Buy I Think) everything there is genuine and you get a warranty

If you buy from the mass traders on the first floor , then you are generally buying Grey imports or even copies and there will be no warranty. Prices may be better than the top floor but but buyer beware

this is so funny... I've bought a second hand phone years ago and it's still my favorite monger phone... 800 baht i think...

However I carry my nokia e72 and HTC with me most the time my shitty little throw away phone is the most durable and reliable and gets the best signal... Never changed the battery...

There actually is an honest seller there... and I'm having a heck of time remembering his name but he mostly unlocks and repairs phones... everyone else takes your money and overcharges you then takes the phone to him to work on. But I think you could get him to review any phone before you buy it...

If I dig up his name I'll let you folks know...
