Keeping exchange rates and bank fees in mind, Is it better to use an ATM to withdraw some Baht or should I hit the exchange booth?

Does anyone know what the fees are at the exchange booths?

Does anyone know if banks will give a better exchange rate than an exchange booth?

Thanks

Trouble with ATM is that you are likely to be charged by your bank at home for the 'privilege' of using your card abroad.

I always take the cash and use the exchange booths. As fas as I know the exchange rate is the same. I have only used the ATM as an emergency and have been charged for using it.

As noted, you get hit with both the exchange rate + a fee for using a foreign ATM. If you are coming from the U.S., I think my banks said they would hit me with a $5 charge + the regular non-bank ATM fee.

In my opinion, the booths are a much better way to go -- their "fee" is built into the exchange rate that they give you, with the exception of traveler's checks. With traveler's checks, you pay a "fee" to exchange them, but you get a higher exchange rate, so it pretty much nets out.

Good Idea I did the same thing in Patong a couple of years ago. Does anyone know if their is a KBank at Bangkok airport? Thought I would just put my money into the a/c when I arrive in Bangkok.

If you have a VISA card with no ATM fees and can find a Bank of Ayutthaya ATM with no fee that will probably be cheapest.

It also depends on what your home currency is.

Thai banks charges the lowest margins on USD in 50 or 100 denom.

If your home country is outside USD, EUR or GBP zone it is probably cheaper to use ATMs even with fees. But minimize fees by withdrawing the max permitted amount each time.

If you come to LOS just for a couple of weeks then it make sence to take cash and use the exchange boxes in Pattaya it self .

I think to me it is the cheapest way. I will arrive next week and stay 10 days I have a cash and exchange when needed...

For those who bring cash, do you just leave all of your cash in the hotel safe? I will be staying in Patts for 2 weeks and wasn't sure how safe it is to leave ~$2,500 USD in my hotel room safe hehe.

Someday, somebody will ski that

yeah guys thanks for the replies... im from the usa.. and last time i checked we were getting 32 baht to the dollar...

ive been to los 2 times already and both time i played it really safe and left all my cash in a checking account linked to my bank card.. it worked out well but i was paying bank fees. plus a few times my bank put a hold on the card so i had to call them and then i had to go to the atm every few days because of cash limits and also on my first trip i was told i could only use the card 10 times a year, which i later found out not to be true.. but this time around im not as worried.. i know the hotels im going to be staying in and they al have safes so im not going to be worried about money being stolen..

i am pre-cautious before i leave my room every night.. i make sure everything is locked up incase the mood is strong when i return to the room with miss jolt of the evening... plus i never leave the room with more then im either willing to spend or loose..

    • For those that don't know, I did Friday meetings before many years ago,  I feel like we are missing a regular meeting for members,  I am aware guys meet at PA affiliated bars. But I want to start meeting people again, I'm inviting the guys following my YouTube also.

The meetings is a chance to get to meet each other,  I plan to be at every meeting, I also have Dean from Dive bar that has offered to help out with a crawl after.
The meetings will be  Monday  6 pm - 8 pm each week.  (The improvised bar crawl will commence at 8 p.m.  Dean will make his own plans for that.)

Due to low numbers of people in town, I will start the meetings in our bars to help our girls and managers, please check back often incase things are changed.  I will be sharing the love around town later, but Soi 6 is first on my list (including bars that are friendly competition)
If bar owners want us to have a meeting at their bar,  they need to have a minimum of 10 girls.  I'm not dragging people to empty bars for favours.
Please help us invite other members, it takes a while to get momentum.
Monday 6 pm - 8pm  (then bar crawl after)
      21st March - Playpen Soi 6

18th April - where angels play Soi 6
25th April -  (next bar we have open)

2nd May - (next bar we have open)
      9th May - Cooters bar soi 6
16th May - Hot shots bar Soi 6

      30th of May - Lust soi 6

I look forward to meeting people again.
