Numbers

I'll start with the number 0 to zero. Once we have a permanent home for software I will add to the list as I don't want to make many links to Thailanguage.com for the audio files.

You can also download the freeware program called ThaiNumbers.

0 - Soon - Listen

1 - Nueng - Listen

2 - Sorng - Listen

3 - Saam - Listen

4 - See - Listen

5 - Haa - Listen

6 - Hok - Listen

7 - Jet - Listen

8 - Bpead - Listen

9 - Gaao - Listen

10 - Sip - Listen

11 Sip-et - note that it is not Sip-nueng as you might expect.

12 Sip-sorng

13 Sip-saam

..

..

19 Sip-gaao

20 Yee-sip - note that similar to 11 it is not how you might expect. All round ten numbers are simple.

21 Yee-sip-et

22 Yee-sip-sorng

..

..

30 Saam-sip

40 See-sip

50 Haa-sip

..

..

90 Gaao-sip

100 Nueng-roi

1000 Nueng-pan

10000 Nueng-muen

100000 Neung-saen

1000000 Nueng-laan

Ordinal numbers are easy. The word tee is added as a prefix to the number eg first is Tee-nueng, fifth is Tee-haa and tenth is Tee-sip.

Decimal numbers are easy too. Thai for the decimal point is Jud so 1.3 is neung jud saam and 11.15 is Sip-et jud sorng haa.

Fractions are expessed as sate suan eg 7 1/4 is Jet sate neung suan see and 4 1/2 is See sate nueng suan sorng. However a half is also expressed as Krueng so more correct would be See krueng

That concludes the lesson on numbers. I am still to add some audio.

Fractions are expessed as <full number> sate <numerator> suan <dominator> eg 7 1/4 is Jet sate neung suan see and 4 1/2 is See sate nueng suan sorng. However a half is also expressed as Krueng so more correct would be See krueng

Nice, I thought I'd add that the way the numbers are added up is different to the western world.

Eg: 11,000 = Nueng-muen + Nueng-pan
