  • It's also remarkable that Seh Daeng, who tells in interviews how proud he is to have killed 20 communists a couple of years ago, is now the 'military chief' of a partially radical left-wing movement.

This is what seems to be doing the rounds.

Even if its not true it could start a riot.

I fear for the next few days. :(

Speaking with people here, there is genuine anger over this and Sala Deng. I have yet to hear one person speak in favour of the government or military, indeed some are denying the military as merely a wing of the rich who they feel are trying to form a dictatorship over democracy.

He has just been moved to a Hospital still breathing but with a bullet wound to the right side of his head. Got this from a security guard at the hotel. The mood is very black here.

Very True... Sad isn,t.. The poor (red shirts) won the vote couple years ago fair and square.. But it had take away from them two years ago...

Just up on The Nation:

An outspoken red shirt leader Lt Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol is shot and suffers a serious wound at the base of the head on Thursday.

He was reportedly being treated in intensive care unit at Hua Chiew Hospital. At 8.20pm, Seh Daeng is undergoing a CAT scan.

Reports said that he was shot in the head near Sala Daeng intersection while he was giving an interview to a Japanese reporter.

The Nation reports he was shot in the head while being interviewed by a Japanese reporter.

Hopefully holds some truth.

It does appear to be true. However, it appears that he is not dead and it could be a very bad thing for Thailand if he is/or does die.

Although I would like him gone, I have to agree that the aftermath wouldn't be good. Can see it kicking off whatever the outcome now anyway what with the PM cancelling the election.

He is undergoing emergency surgery, red shirt security around the leaders are now sporting bullet proof vests. The word is he was shot by a sniper whilst giving an interview. we were there just shortly before.

Trust me, it's paradise. This is where the hungry come to feed.

For mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven't tried before.

So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome.

Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It's probably worth it.

reeves.jpg

I also heard tens of thousands of troop moving in to block entrance/egress to protest sight.armored personnel carries, and cutting off all food, water, and electricity..

I think with the shooting of leading general red shirt and another protester..very bad shit going down This could begin Civil War in Many parts of Thailand and if General dies-he deffinately become a Martyr. General was talking to many reporters as well as NY Times reporter..This is on CNN in USA right now.

this is horrible.

i don't see how this can end in a good way.

now we wait and see.

i think that things are going to get very ugly very quickly!!!

the "reds" are going to be out for blood.

The government deny being involved in the assassination however this statement is being used against them.

An army spokesman had said earlier that troops would surround the rally site in the heart of Bangkok with armoured vehicles and that demonstrators would be allowed to leave but not enter the area.

"Snipers will be deployed in the operation," said the spokesman, Colonel Sunsern Kaewkumnerd, after issuing a series of tough warnings to the "Red Shirt" protesters in recent weeks.

Sunsern said soldiers would be authorised to use real bullets for warning shots, self-defence and against "armed terrorists," although the government did not announce any immediate plan to forcibly disperse protesters.

An unsuccessful attempt by troops on April 10 to clear a different area in the capital's historic district sparked fierce street fighting that left 25 people dead and hundreds wounded.

Defiant Red Shirts vowed no surrender, despite the shooting of Khattiya.

"If you think the shooting of Seh Daeng will scare leaders and make them not dare to take the stage, you are wrong," one of the protest leaders, Jatuporn Prompan, said at the rally site.

"No matters what the weapons are, it means nothing to people who are calling for democracy like us. We will not leave here as losers."

Abhisit announced earlier he had ditched a plan to hold elections in mid-November under a peace plan aimed at ending the tense standoff because the protesters were refusing to disperse.

"I have told security officials to restore normality as soon as possible," he said., however,

Might seem that my 2nd trip will be postponed for a long time now.....

Guess it's back to hunting falang girls for me, maybe the right thing as the girls here's dislike to me going to Thailand ("aren't we good enough bla bla")

It really doesn't matter what the government says the red shirts believe he was shot by a sniper under orders from Abhisit or at least someone in his government.

What is really intriguing is why the crackdown was ordered when it looked like negotiations were starting to achieve results.............. or perhaps that is the reason.

All whoever assassinated him has achieved is to invite more assassinations and violence perhaps that was the intention all along.

>> Katthiya, the daughter of Lt Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, said her father is critically injured and is in a coma.

"If he does not pull through, I will decide later what should be done next," she said.<<

I have feeling that the airport is going to be very busy when I leave Saturday morning.

I just read on AFP that he has died.

He has made himself a lot of enemies during the last weeks -

a recent Bangkok Post, for example, was full of insults not

only directed at military leaders, but other powerful figures as well.

Reading between the lines of interviews of various RS leaders, he must

also have lost support from most of them, though some must definitely

have considered him as useful in certain ways.

Let's just hope that the situation doesn't escalate more than it already has

and that reason prevails at the end of the day ..eerr.. night.

>> The general, Khattiya Sawatdiphol, 58, was struck in the head by a bullet during an interview with this reporter about 6:50 p.m. on the street in central Bangkok, near a park occupied by his hard-line followers. This reporter, who was facing the general and about two feet away, heard a loud bang not unlike a firecracker. <<

H'mmm .... The reporter heard the shot.

Sky news & channel 4 news here in the UK has confirmed the red shirt leader has been shoot with a bullet in the head in his camp fortres.

He had past army experence & was known as general red.

He had fallen out with other red shirt leaders about the November elections offer.

The 2 news channels also reported that the American & British Embassy have closed but can be contacted on the phone line.

Could this be the real start of war or will it show who is in control & with 30000 thai troops tooled up & in Bangkok I do feel the reds are about to experence the best army & war machine the Kingdom can produce to send them packing.

This next few weeks will be most inportant to us PA's members.
